My pre plus has done this about twice running UK 500/1000, once while it was in the belt clip, the other time when I set it down next to the heat vent of my laptop. Both I think were thermal related.

I have been having the problem recently when shutting the slider, or when in my pocket. I took the back cover off and I could definitely push the battery a little closer to the contacts, so I have wedge a little piece of a business card against the other side of the battery. We will see what happens, I think this is going to fix it.

*UberKernel resets to "UberKernel default" when the Pre dies, you have to go back and change to 500/800 or whatever profile you like.

The loose battery is a known issue.

i have also had some unexpected reset/shutdown issues on my phone (palm pre, webos 1.4.5). when i went to check my phone yesterday morning (1/13), it was turned off. i know i had plenty of battery left, which was confirmed when i turned the phone.

to try and figure out what/why i pulled the system logs (/var/log/message*) to take a look. definitely some weirdness (notice the strange date changes):
