what would be the purpose of HP announcing this to their employees?

I'm sure it was part of a larger meeting about many things. Big companies do these all the time.

And considering the fact that a significant developer said it was abandoning their app for webOS just this week, it might have been an intentional effort knowing that it would get out and hopefully keep some interest among those types of developers.
Clicking the Thanks button is a great way to say... well THANKS

I'm sure this meeting was scheduled long ago, and that they happen several times per year.

their new CEO just started. Probably his first chance to address all 300,000 employees live.

leak it, announce it...i don't care. Coming months or coming soon doesn't work anymore.

bring on the hardware, bring on the devs, bring on the apps.

    it's showtime.

People will be *so* angry if the Pixi 2 has the same screen size as the Pixi.

also, before someone else does it in earnest:

    Nov 2010 - Pre 2
    Jan 2011 - Pixi 2 (now with 800mhz processor!)
Mar 2011 - Pre 2 plus (has a silver button again!)
May 2011 - Pixi 2 plus (now with wifi!)
Jul 2011 - Palm Pad (reviews: "OS metaphor stolen from BlackBerry Playbook, but not as many apps")
Sep 2011 - Pre 3 (NFC chip and 1.2ghz processor in the same beloved shell)
Nov 2011 - Pixi 3 (revolutionary: now with full 360x480 screen!)
