I had to replace my Pre +. My original got squashed by a car...

I didnt have insurance so I just bought a used Pre + from Ebay. It arrived today and I called Verizon to get it activated. When I turned on the phone it went straight to the "sign into your palm profile" screen. I entered my email and PW and it failed saying I needed to be conected to the network. CSR #1 did all the troubleshooting she could and then passed me off to CSR #2. CSR #2 entered the ESN manually and had me jump through some hoops but it was the same problem. After being on the phone for over an hour, CSR #2 gives up and tells me to take my phone to the nearest Verizon store to have them activate it. I hop in the car and about 10 mins later I'm at the Verizon store. I turn my phone over to the in store "tech support" person and after about 20 minutes of messing with the phone her conclusion was that the phone is defective and it cant be activated. She told me that she cant get to the "activation" screen, and the phone wont reset. She suggests that I either reactivate my old Samsung Alias or I pay full retail and buy a new one ($600, ouch). I had her reactivate my Alias and I went home.

When I got home I contacted a Palm tech via online chat and explained my problem. He said to get to the "activation" screen al I had to do was tap the phone icon, select "emergency call" from the menu and delete the 911 number in the display. I could then enter the activation number via the phone keypad.

I called Verizon back and CSR#3 finally got my phone working for me.

I cant believe that two Verizon CSRs and one supposed Tech Support Specialist did not know how to get to the dialing screen to activate the phone. Especially since it was so simple. I'm just glad that I didnt give up.

Did you really expect something else?

retail clerks are clueless, they go through their 2 hours of training and then they are "certified" to sell and service the phone. Really, and it has been posted about here lots of times, they are no help at all. But, at least they didn't offer you a droid.

the CSR folks have a computer that is telling them what to say. I am mostly surprised that they wouldn't be able to find it and read it off the screen. 90% of what they tell/say to you is off of a script.

I guess what I found most suprising was that something so simple was not part of their "script".

I figured this out in about an hour the first time I tried to use an already activated Pixi on my wife's account. Maybe I should be a Verizon employee, I could have saved them some money in this situation.
