I'm moving to the UK in a few months, and I'm trying to find out if my US Pre will work over there. I know that Palm makes a GSM version of the Pre. I also have read that "most US cell phones will work in the UK, but they need to be unlocked to accept another carrier's SIM card."

How do I go about getting my Pre unlocked? If I do that, will it work in the UK? Or should I just use this as an excuse to get a new phone? :-)

Sounds like you have a CDMA (is that correct?), if so, sorry you're out of luck.

Not sure what a CMDA is...

I have (essentially) a roll-out version of the Palm Pre that I bought from a Sprint Store in the US in June of 09.

Looks like I'll be getting a new phone...

...or, in other words, no. It won't work. Sorry.

    Sprint uses CDMA, so no.
Palm IIIc -> Sony CLIÉ T650C -> Sony TJ-37 -> Palm TX -> Palm Centro -> Palm Pre Bell -> Palm Pre Plus Bell/Verizon Hybrid -> HP Veer -> HP Pre 3 NA -> BlackBerry Classic -> BlackBerry Priv

It's a Late Goodbye, such a Late Goodbye.
