Quick messaging question

I apologize if this has been answered in the forums already, I couldn't find it by searching. What does the circle that occasionally appears above your sent or received arrow in messaging mean?

It's for the im to see if they log on or not.

Gray is offline
Green is online

That indicates that contact also has an associated IM account. It will be green if they are logged in.
