The problem happened about a week after updating to 1.4.5. I when I installed my patches. at night I set my alarm and put Pre on touchstone but no normal chime. So I took the phone off and set the alarm to ring the next minute. The alarm notification and dismiss and snooze came up but no sound (good thing I caught it in time). Silent switch should not affect alarm but I checked this was not the issue. Opened music app and it would skip over every song. So opened an mp3 file from browser (which worked before) gave me error. Calls worked fine but I had no ringer. I doctored and it was back to normal for a couple of days. Yesterday put all my patches on but when I put it on the TS no chime again . Removed all patches in preware and ran epr but did not solve. Full reboot and battery pull did not help. Used lumberjack app to get logs and ran the music app to trigger the problem. I will doctor and try this after every patch to see which one triggers it. It happened to me twice in a week just curious if its happened to anyone else. Most patches were installed using quick install. Logs if anyone cares.

I am having this exact same problem after installing patches. Did you figure out which patch is causing the problem?
  3. #3
    Hello.

First, I apologize fo my bas english.

I have the exact problem since I buy the Pre+, one month ago.
When I bought it, it was in webOS 1.4.3 and this problem was already there, without any patch installed.
I had to modify the "CarrierNetwokssettings.db3" and only that file to make the Pre working in my Country (Tahiti, French Polynesia).
After that, I upgrade to webOS 1.4.5, thinking the problem will solve.
    Unfortunately, it doesn't.
The same things happened : OS works fine, I can call and receive (call, SMS), applications from AppCatalog and Preware works fine too.
But no sound when ringing, no sound on notifications (calendar, tasks, ...), Music App (skip over every song), Video app (error during the reading), no video on YouTube (same error).

I don't know what to do now.

    Thanks for your help.

I'm a Sprint Pre user now running 1.4.5 and since a Doctor install of 1.4.5, my system load is through the roof (as seen in Govnah). It only happens when the screen is off. I've narrowed it down to either mediaserver or fileindexer. I'm starting to lean towards mediaserver because if I "dbus-util --capture", the media server starts, stops, fails to stop then dies, starts, stops, fails to stop then dies, starts...

over and over. It only happens when the screen is off and I'm on batterty (not plugged in).

Any ideas? And yes, MediaServer is needed. The Pre won't play sounds without it.

Thank god I'm not the only one is all I was thinking when I saw this. I am still on Verizon's 1.41. I thought this happened only after I put GPS-fix on. I was really careful, but after communicating with the programmer I'm not sure it is. My error is the same. Does everyone have the GPS-Fix patch? This would help eliminate that with your replies. Thank you.

I have the same problem, but I don't have the GPS-Fix patch.

Please see the conversation I had with UnixPsycho concerning audio issues with 1.4.5 starting here:

I had exact the same problem. I found out that the pulseaudio doesn't start because the permissions of '/var' were set to 700. The pulseaudio daemon runs under user 'pulse' and it can't access it's directory '/var/run/pulse'. The solution was to change the permission of '/var' to 755.

    1. enable Developer Mode (if it's not already enabled)
    2. novaterm
    3. chmod 755 /var
    4. logout and reboot

Thanx, that worked. Took me a long time to realize this was the issue. Kept on fidling with the earpiece connector, thinking that was the issue

    Hi.

I tryed the lkchk solution but it didn't work.
All function perfectly but no audio, video.
When making call or receiving call, It works by headset, bluetooth, or built-in speaker.

I suspect a permission problem, but I don't know what to change.

    Thanks.

lkchk's solution worked for me. Appears to have happened after I did an install of several ipkg-opt packages from the command line. I've not had a chance to narrow them down yet, however /var/* was changes to 700 and nothing inside could run, and that broke a *lot* of things.

Might be worth making an Emergency Permissions Fixer script, WebOS guys

    Hello.

lkchk's solution : maybe it could work with -R option ?

If you do use the recursive option, be careful. Some of the folders have SUID bits on them, and not all the folders use the same permissions, i.e.

    Code:
    -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 25 Nov 15 16:39 remount.sh
    dr-x-wSr-t 6 root root 260 Nov 17 12:29 run
    dr-x-wSr-t 2 root root 4096 Jun 14 13:44 spool
    drwxr-xr-x 6 root root 4096 Jun 14 13:44 ssl
    drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 Nov 15 14:37 svc
    lrwxrwxrwx    1 root     root            4 Jun 14 13:44 tmp -> /tmp
    lrwxrwxrwx    1 root     root           31 Jun 14 13:44 touchpaneldump -> /var/log/reports/touchpaneldump
    drwxr-xr-x 6 root root 4096 Nov 15 14:42 usr
    palm-webos-device /var # cd usr
    palm-webos-device usr # ls
    bin lib palm sbin
    palm-webos-device usr # ls -l
    drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Nov 16 00:10 bin
    drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 4096 Nov 15 14:43 lib
    drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Nov 15 13:58 palm
    drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Nov 17 00:08 sbin
    palm-webos-device usr #
It might cause more problems doing that, I'd start with fixing one folder at a time, and use the SDK and Emulator to verify what the permissions should be.

    Thanks aramova.

I made an "ls -l" in the "/var/usr" directory and there is only lib, palm and sbin directories, no bin directory.

I try too a "WebOS Repair Utility" and it found only one file to restore : /etc/.rootfs_RW

I think this missing bin directory must be important. Isn't t ?

    Thanks.
