This has happened to me twice now.
    The phone just turns off.
    No power.

    Power button doesn't do anything.

    My phone is frozen "off".

The first time a soft reset (pushing "on" button and turning ringer on/off 3x) did the trick.

    Now...nothing.

    It's a paperweight.

    Any ideas?

I love the phone and don't want to have to take it back.
But it doesn't do me any good if it doesn't work.

Were you doing anything when it turned off? Like opening or closing the slider? There were issues in the past with how the batter fit and some phones would shut off because the battery wasn't making a good connection when opening or closing the slider...

I was bowling...Had to tweet my tremendous 189 score! Maybe the phone was jealous?

I'm willing to bet that wedging a small bit of card in the battery section (to shim it making it contact better) will solve this..

    Okay, that worked.
    Thanks.

How often would you expect THIS to happen.

Not a great day for me to visit Precentral and have the lead story be >30% return rates for Pre's.

You can temporarily use a shim to apply pressure. I believe there was a post not too long ago about a fix for this. People that had this issue were able to got to the cell co. and get something that fixed this... Not sure exactly what it was, new battery maybe? I'll have to see if I can find it...
