Is there a way to download the update with a computer, then transfer it to the phone (without using webOS doctor)? I'm overseas for at least a year, don't have Sprint service, and can't connect to the internet over wireless because the Pre doesn't connect to HTTP proxy servers. I thought I would still be able to use my Pre for music, games, and internet browsing but without the ability to connect to via HTTP proxy that is just a pipe dream. I would like to upgrade to 1.4.5 and buy more games.

That's pretty much what the Doctor is - a full version. Once the new update comes out, the Doctor version is usually released shortly after. You will be able to download that updated version of the Doctor and install.

AT&T users will be waiting at least until September, so there is no reason to expect an update right now for AT&T. Of course, HP/Palm could do what Apple does and just release the update without waiting for carrier approval. What are they going to do, tell their sales people not to push the device?

Nothing here yet, although nothing of significance in the update to make me actually feel the need for it.

Hopefully sometime today. Maybe when I wake up this afternoon

I know it is a small update for us Pre and Pre Plus users, but I just want to get it updated and overwith so we can move on to 2.0!!!

Don't forget the new apps that require 1.4.5 that have been released in the past few weeks, or that Pixi and Pixi Plus owners need it to play games.

I doubt seriously that the carriers would allow any OS update on their network without testing and approval. You just don't hear about that part of the process normally.

How do you explain how quickly the iOS 4.0.1 update came out compared to WebOS 1.4.5 which was released to carriers for approval much earlier?

Palm has had updates come out very quickly as well. Just because it was released quickly doesn't mean that the carrier didn't approve it.

That is my point, the amount of testing for WebOS 1.4.5 must be huge compared to iIOS 4.0.1 since it has been two months since AT&T got it with yet more testing being required, yet AT&T just approved the iOS update within a few weeks?

Well if they tested iOS 4 any more they would have seen it completely destroys your battery. And is unusable on anything but a 3GS+. What a turd they dropped there.

    Gimme more WebOS awesomeness!

I wouldn't post it unless you redact your account number and user name. That's why I didn't include the link.
