I say it's good because we're getting the update now instead of weeks from now and if there are anymore issues with apps then devs only have to make small changes to update them.
  2. #962
The way the email to devs was worded I would be surprised if everybody did not get 1.4.5 within the next day.
  3. #963
    Lets hope!!!

Still waiting!!! UGH, I'm bored at work and this update is all I have to look forward too!!! LOL

I've created an "Emergency Fstab Fixer" package which corrects this problem in the /etc/fstab file to make an OTA-updated webOS 1.4.5 device be the same as a webOS Doctored webOS 1.4.5 device

    http://ipkg.preware.org/feeds/webos-..._1.0.0_all.ipk

It should be installable with Preware 1.1.x (look in the testing feed), Preware 1.2.0 (using the new Install Package functionality to install it directly from that URL), or palm-install.

It has safeguards to ensure it will only do things on webOS 1.4.5 and not any later version (like 1.4.5.1 etc).

"Install this package on your webOS device immediately after updating to webOS 1.4.5 to fix a Palm OTA bug in the /etc/fstab file. See http://developer.palm.com/distributi...hp?f=70&t=7942 and http://developer.palm.com/distributi...hp?f=70&t=8109 for more details about the bug. This fix is only required when you OTA update to webOS 1.4.5 - if you use the webOS Doctor to install webOS 1.4.5 you are not affected."

Quick question about this, Im assuming its a good thing so I will be installing it, Question is, do I install it before updating my phone or after?

Based on the postings about the /etc/fstab bug in the public Palm developer forum, one could make a guess as to why the release has been delayed.

This is software. When releasing software, serious bugs sometimes happen, and plans change as a result. I personally would consider the /etc/fstab bug serious enough to delay a release. I don't know whether Palm has made that decision or not, but it's an obvious reason for a delay.

Or would you prefer Palm to release a webOS update that breaks your 3D games?

    This preference/bug or something else?
Forums webOS • View topic - Possible bug in /etc/fstab

Seems to be more a user preference as the possibility of corruption is an issue with any Linux system not using reiserFS.

If the thank you button was used properly then it would mean something. But since the community uses it for little things like thanking someone for misinformation then your right "it means nothing". I really have no care for or against the thank you button... I just like assisting people with information i know to be accurate and i like to find out legitimate information.

    I've updated the EFF post:

"Install this package on your webOS device immediately after updating to webOS 1.4.5 to fix a Palm OTA bug in the /etc/fstab file. See Forums webOS • View topic - 1.4.5 Jail Settings and OTA Updates and Forums webOS • View topic - Alert: 1.4.5 Bug with Writing to /media/internal for more details about the bug.
