    I currently have a Centro on an AT&T plan that does not have unlimited data.

    Once the AT&T Pre has been out for a little while, I'm considering picking one up off-contract (ebay or Craig's List) and popping in my sim card. I'm thinking that I should then be able to activate it using the existing data plan, or Meta-Doctor if I need to, correct?

    Here's my main question: Is there an OS patch, or any other way to toggle off 3G data and force the Pre to WiFi only? I would want this to be a global change on the device (all apps) but still retain full phone usage and data over WiFi usage. The point is to be able to disable 3G data only, but be able to enable it for "Controlled Usage" of the data plan. This is simply to avoid/postpone changing my current AT&T plan. Any insight? Or do I need to submit this as a patch request to webOS internals?

    To turn off 3g, launch the phone app, go to preferences and there is an option to turn off data. So yes this is done easily.
    Also there is a patch and app that give you quick access to this functionality if you need to turn it back on and off. Both can be found in preware. The app is simply called data toggle, look it up if you want.
    this might help also, there is an app called netstat that allows you to track your data usage, you might want to check the homebrew section for this also.

    As for the meta-doctor I have never had to do it so are not to sure.

    @pip smith
    Thanks a ton for the info. That's exactly what I needed to know. I figured that somebody else would have a need for this, but since I'm not a Pre owner yet it's hard to keep up with all the little homebrew patches and apps that add these kind of functions.

    Well here's to hoping you can get your pre soon. I'm sure the rumour is now 16th of may for at&t release.
    But I have only highlighted other people's great work so the credit really goes to the creators of these apps and patches.
