does anyone know if there is a way to install a patch directly from the phone?
    Using Internalz or something else?

NO, THE PATCH IS NOT IN PREWARE YET.

I have limited access to my work desktop, and I cant upgrade the Java version. Thus no webosqi.
    thanks

Not that I am aware of. I don't think the Terminal app on the phone can edit the code like that.

You have to have the terminal program on the Pre - but yes, you can.

You might still be able to connect to the Pre via USB at work, and install it by gaining root access.

Connect the Pre to your computer as a USB device, and copy the file the USB "drive" on the Pre.

Assuming you've done that to the root of the USB drive, get terminal access to the Pre (easiest way is to us Novaterm - see Main Page - WebOS Internals for info) and type the following

    /usr/bin/ipkg install /media/internal/THE-NAME-OF-YOUR-PATCH.ipk

If you cannot hook the pre up, but know the url of the patch, you can type the command

    /usr/bin/ipkg -o /var install THE-URL-OF-YOUR-PATCH

will the command above work if the file is .patch and not .ipkg?
I tried it with terminal on the phone, and it gave me an error.
