If I'm in a location with a strong signal, I get up to 1.6 Mbs download on my iPad with verizon MHS.

I spoke with Palm tech specialist today and got no where. She is supposed to escalate to the next level. I'm supposed to get a call within 24 hours. They seem to be pretty pro-active. I was on vacation and they attempted to call me several times.

I think the ipod touch and ipad does that with any wireless connection. I had comcast at home and on my laptop, it would download 16mbps. On my iPod, it showed 12mbps.

Now I have my Sprint Overdrive and on my laptop it shows 6 to 8 mbps while on my iPod Touch, it struggles to get to even 3 mbps.

I have no idea why it does this. I have friends that have the iPad that says it doesn't utilize fast downloads either.

maybe apple coded things to make it all suck if you weren't using another apple product with it? lol jk.

they would if they could though.

No. Struggling to get 100Kbps down while getting 300Kbps up (and while laptop is getting 2Mbps down) clearly indicates a unique issue for the hotspot feature. In contrast, when using actual wifi on my home network, I see download speeds of 4-12Mbps on the Touch depending on my distance from the router and the speed delivered by Charter at that moment.

I got a call from palm tech specialist this afternoon. She suggested I upgrade to webos 1.4.1.1 I upgraded and the problem is still there. I told her to call me tomorrow to follow up.

Ditto. No improvement at all for me after upgrade to 1.4.1.1

My download speed (barely 100 Kbps) is still only 30 percent of the upload for my Touch when connected to MHS with strong 3G service.

I too have the same problem average 135 Kbps download and 175 Kbps upload on my Asus 1000HE netbook. I purchased the phone 2 weeks ago by phone and it was Fed-Ex to me from their central shipping in California. Since the hotspot was the reason I purchased the phone I notice the problem immediately and I spoke with Verizon Tech support several times and they in turn put me on a conference call with Palm tech support but to no avail. They don't seem to know of the problem. Verizon tech support finally decided it was a defective phone and had me go to the local Verizon store to replace it with another new Palm Pre Plus. The new phone had the same problem. I installed the new OS 1.4.1.1 upgrade but there was no change in the hotspot speeds. I'm glad to read here that I'm not the only one with this problem but I'm wondering if Palm has any plan to fix the problem since they don't seem to be aware of it when speaking to either Palm Tech Support or Verizon Tech Support. I have 2 weeks left to decide if I keep the Palm Pre Plus which I like in every other respect (except ther is no voice dialing feature) or to return it and go back to using my old phone since the hotspot feature is why I purchased the phone. I hope we will get some answers from Palm Support confirming the problem and assuring us there will be a fix soon.

I haven't seen any update. I have noticed some comment that a Touch worked well with a sprint pre for one of the members that had recently added MHS to his phone.

I think it's verizon's service not agreeing with apple's hardware. I've a macbook pro at home with a vzw modem and it is the SLOWEST thing <100kbs

hmm my macbook gets .88 mbs, while the ipod touch is getting .11 mbs...

I just installed the iOS 4 Gold Master on my iPod Touch. I connected it to my Pre's Mobile Hotspot and it does a lot better. It still isn't spectacular at all and there's still obviously a problem. However, surfing the web on Safari is much more tolerable. I think there's an improvement with iOS 4. My last several speedtests have been right around 0.18 Mb/s down and 0.46 Mb/s up.

The best I ever got before was 0.05 Mb/s.
