Would the old PST for GSM Motorolas work on the chipset? Functions seem similar to QPST, and this is a software that I am very familiar with.
The chipset is 6260, but i doubt moto is using QCOMs by now - i don't trace it for a long time.
Old PST won't work IMO, the new, if it exist, would probably work if the command headers are of usual QCOM. But maximum you can gain from nv_items is nothing comparing to what you need to unlock it.
And sorry to ask, but what is so unusual i have said that was hard to believe?

Tomi, i can't.

I will break the head but i will find a way to get it back.
All i need is to install/run a sh script to send a custom luna-send command.
If i can download and istall apps via app catalogue then i can install any app over the WiFi. It a pitty i am not familiar with pre apps development, otheriwse i would write it.
It's like the demo apps from the SDK - just instead of their sample commands i need to send my command to get the novacom mode back.
I can write the app, or try to, but how then to install it over WiFi?
That's the question.

I haven't seen a new PST leaked in a long time, though I am no longer as active in the scene as I once was.

And your claim of unlocking the Pre was the first, and came from nowhere. Plus the shakycam video! Plus, I just tend not to believe. What I mean to say is, congratulations.

You either need a command line or a tool like fileCoaster that will install your app.
And since there is no way to get that installed on your Pre...

I am not sure, but Pre's chipset is able to run at any frequency, it's quadband one. the only difference is the setings in the nv_items ( IMO ).
Read the specs closely. Quad Band GSM, Dual Band 3G. There's even two different GSM communications boards.

I completely disassembled two Pre's, the EU Movistar Pre with its communications board stamped EU, and the North American Mexico Telcel Pre with its communications board stamped NA as part of my failed unlock effort.

You may be asking yourself what made me so intent on unlocking that Telcel pre such that I purchased a European model, then dissassembled them both? I received the Telcel Mexico Pre in December 2009 and promptly began using it with a Telcel SIM card while roaming on AT&T's 3G network in the USA.

My 3G experience while roaming on AT&T's network was awesome. Contrary to what iPhone users would have everyone believe about AT&T's network dropping calls, That Pre didn't drop a single call during the two weeks I used it on AT&T's network. Furthermore, the 3G speeds were blazing fast. The device loaded web pages two to three times faster than Verizons Palm Pre Plus. As a side note, after that experience with the Pre, and not a single dropped call on AT&T's network, I'm convinced the iPhone 3G radio must emit a ton of harmonics that may interfere with GSM and GPRS frequencies.

Shortly thereafter the Telcel bill arrived. You may already know that Telcel is owned and operated by the world's richest man, Mr. Carlos Slim. After roaming with that Telcel Palm pre for two weeks, I have no doubts where a huge chunk of his money came from. Telcel's roaming fee's are without a doubt the steepest in the land!

Congrats on your POC and look forward to seeing the business model developed and marketed worldwide. Unfortunately for me it will come too late as the AT&T Palm Pre Plus device I yearn for will be released in very short order, but there will be many other folks most notably those in Canada and Asia who will benefit from the work you've done.

Thanks,
TTB

Barry, i just want to thank you for your attention, but i still have a question - what means when the AT&T devices come out? What would it change? Will it be unlocked or what?
And regarding the boards - i look at the phone from inside. And what i see is - they use the same firmware, therefore it's same module but tuned to work with one or the other network. YET IMO!

AT&T devices won't be unlocked, or so it has been said, but for me as an AT&T customer, my needs will be served by the release of an AT&T device. As I said, there will be many other folks most notably those in Canada and Asia who will benefit from the work you've done.

I may be wrong, but I recall there are two different Qualcomm 3G chips used. One for the EU comm board, and the other for the NA comm board. If I am wrong, then from your perspective, it's possible to get an EU Pre with a comm board tuned to EU 3G frequencies retuned for 3G NA frequencies of 850 / 1900? Maybe you can share how to do that with us?

I see your point now. OK thanks for sharing your opinion!

Regarding the boards - i will take a deeper look into the issue, i hope to come up with some results but that will hapen in case if Pre will get at least 20% of the iphone popularity. I am not driven by money issue, but in this case by public interest. Like if to say - to be usefull to the community.

Just FYI, if you manage to get the AT&T Pre Plus unlocked, people of Australia and Canada will thank you.

Australia's Telstra uses 850 MHz. I'm sure Rod would appreciate getting a Pre working with Telstra.

I've already got my heart set on the HSPA Pre Plus (can't wait to get off Bell's CDMA and move to their HSPA network), and I have another friend who's interested who wants to use it on Rogers. So you have two orders already here.

Toni, (and Max)
I meant to say AT&T devices won't "come" unlocked, didn't mean to imply that they won't "be" unlocked. Max's software unlock method "should" work for any GSM Pre, even a Telcel Pre. Won't know for sure until we see it arrive in real life rather than just on video.
