What are the chances that Plam will release an update that would increase the CPU speed so that people dont have to patch the Pre?

i'm going to go with 0%, since the chips they use are rated by the manufacturer as being capable of far less than 800MHz.

I would say 0%. I imagine the reason they underclocked the Pre's in the first place was to extend the life of it. They would be slitting their own throats if they released this patch.

0% , its called a new Palm Pre model

Slim to none. Too many potential reliability and battery life issues.

Palm needs to be pursuing further code optimization to increase speed, not overclocking. There is plenty of gains to be made without changing the clock speed, and it will yield benefits across all current and future handsets.

Instead, you should rephrase your question to ask "What are the chances Palm would love to have quite a bit more returned broken Pre's they have to pay to have replaced?"

where can I get the patch?

If they release an updated version based on OMAP3640 maybe we'll get 1GHz.

... Though I hope they don't, it's a nice change, but not as big as OMAP4.
