Well... I say, "Bring it!"

I'll even add some Cygwin instructions for people with bandwidth or storage restraints... or are just afraid of the word Ubuntu. I'm not sure who wouldn't be able to use it in that situation.

Does seem like quite a bit of work for Avg Joe, tho... just for a complete backup solution. But I'm sure they'd appreciate it when they see the end result.

This would be awesome! I would happily donate to get something like this for the Pre. I tinker way too much to not have a "safety net" like this.

Take Care,

Is this along the lines of what everyone was looking for?

Copying over the PalmDatabase.db3 to a freshly-doctored Pre has caused me nothing but problems. I still backup up my db3 before I wipe it, in hopes that some day I can piece all my files together and get them back on the Pre... I also dream of a day that dashwire works on the Pre.

That's a baby step to a full-on backup solution, or even designed to be a partial backup solution.

The one that Rod is talking about here, the Meta-Geneticist (which I believe is a Doctor that has been cloned from your Pre and is ready to be installed onto any webOS device with one click [ok, 3 clicks!]) seems to be a whole step in the right direction.

I think the OP is talking about ghosting. Is this possible?

Sort of...

That app saves application data so you can export it and then once a doctor or full erase.

The app we are talking about/wanting here, is one that would give us a more customized version of a webos dr. to put it simply.

So say you Dr. your phone, install all of your apps/patches/themes/tweaks. Then you would take the image of the phone. Then in the future, instead of having to go thru preware and re-install all of your patches and what not, you would just "doctor" your phone with this image instead.

Sorry for not updating you guys for so long.

I posted a thread with more info over in the Webos development section:

http://forums.precentral.net/web-os-...-preimage.html

Things got a bit delayed, but look for a beta release this week!

OK, this is exactly what I was talking about with the Meta-Geneticist. Looks like tdps2 had already had that idea and has a working cross-platform implementation, so I'll simply point everyone his way

Nice work, tdps2 - let me know if you need server hosting for your package - if it's open source we can put it up on ipkg.preware.org somewhere if you don't have your own hosting for what I expect will be a popular package.
