If the hardware was great, Palm wouldn't have half a million of them sitting on shelves. The return/exchange rate wouldn't be through the roof.

That was great logic....the reason they are not selling is bc people at verizon are dettering them !!!! Go to verizon stores!!!! I have not had one problem.....Use better logic!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Maybe the original pre was bad not the pre plus

Thanks cardfan, it's good to see somebody else here who doesn't live in denial.

Understand that Verizon was pushing an anti-apple/at&t campaign at the same time. Droid was its champion. Cool effective commercials were made. When you have a fight, people take sides. Verizon employees embraced the Droid.

Besides, obviously if Palm could have launched on Verizon first, they would have. Right? I doubt Verizon wanted any part of it or didn't offer to do carry the Pre or invest in marketing as sprint did. It was only after all the hype palm got after CES did verizon say we'll have it later.
Yeah, people keep forgetting that the Pre launched with it's "own identity" personified by monks spinning around a Borg Queen who just got her hands on some really good kush and....

It also launched with shoddy hardware, no apps, no games, a comparatively small screen, a comparatively much slower UI, and at least three of the points made in the original Verizon iDont ad would not apply to the Pre and WebOS.

Oh, and did I mention it launched late and positioned against an iPhone that got replaced by a much bigger and stronger brother two weeks later?

It's fun to imagine a mirror universe where we all have goatees, and the Pre launched on Verizon to blockbuster sales, but...uh...no.

But I thought "most" people are incredibly happy with their purchase. Oh wait...that's most people who bought them, which is actually a minority compared to the 500K+ or so who didn't and left it to collect dust.

Said it before. I'll say it again. These two models and their variants are toast. WebOS aint. Gotta separate the good from the bad ASAP.

This sounds suspiciously like musicians and bands that blame flop albums on a "lack of promotion".

Is the Pre return rate published? If so, what is the return rate compared to other phones?

If they are telling you that they would have kicked **** if they came out before Verizon, do you really think they will tell you actual return rates?

It has a kickass multitasking system metaphored by a serious pocker game in a hot casino with studs in sunglasses, ladies in thin sleek red dresses, drinking Bacardi 501 (and for the ladies, margarita's.) Then it has the wisedom of the company that practically invented PDA's and the clamness of a pebble. It has the curves of a sleek black Porche 911 but the practicality of a Minivan. The smoothness of a Fine Cigar, and the ruggedness of a Semitruck.

It's for the working man, The mom, the football star, and the business woman. It works hard, it plays hard, always there and always connected.

It connects all facets of your life, b/c it knows every second of your life should be spent on living it.
    seriously...its marketing..

Sadly, the return rate of the Pre is ridiculously high and more often than not you know who gets the blame for those returns? The carrier. People are idiots, not to mention Verizon invested a lot of into the Droid before the Pre ever hit Verizon; of course it makes sense to push your flagship device, especially when sales have been astronomical, you continue to push something that's doing very well versus something that's holding on for dear life.

Honestly, it's going to take a Spartan army to win this "battle", it's a brutal battlefield with every disadvantage that could be had by Palm.

I have learned two important points from this thread:

    1. DBD is "a miserable"? (Maybe he was called "a miserable" because of his avatar?)

    2. Marketing!

The most important question to arise out of Ee-trade's recent posts is - how deep in the hole is he with palm stock?

Of course you can sell a brick. People buy bricks all the time. But you can't consistently sell a brick as a phone. Once you exhaust the idiots - and there are fewer than most people think - you will go out of business.

People often cite the "pet rock" as an example of how you can market anything. But then forget that it was a fad that did not last.

I like (not love) my Pre. It has two things that annoy the crap out of me that I wish were fixed (speed & battery). But I think we have to consider the possibility that it might not be a marketing failure. Maybe the dogs don't like it.

Palm is going into battle on a battlefield where the playing field is not fair. If you are a happy customer and a fan we need to take the "viral" thread to another extreme!!! This is a joke. I ask everyone, customers and fans, lets get this viral thread that NEVILLE created going and make this happen!!! Palm is going against the competition without a fair battle. We can help and tonight (as well as the dates provided by the neville thread} put on the PALM "jeresey" and spread the word ASAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lets at least allow palm go to battle on a fair playing field and if then they can t compete at least we tried.

I love my PRE, and really look forward to a large screen, 1ghz+, lots of RAm and storgae, let WebOS fly. But the bad misconception is that Palm was competing with the Droid, while the Droid is competing with the Iphone and nobody notices Palm standing in the corner.

I love my Palm Pre currently using sprint service. Yeah there is more I wish I had with apps like Documents To Go, but I'm satisfied with whats currently available. After having a HTC Touch Pro, I waited for sprint to release an Android phone which took way too long and saw that Palm was finally releasing another handheld into the market that was not WM I was so happy as I loved my Centro which really had no apps besides facebook. The Pre does what other phones cannot and other phones are trying to catch up to "Getting into the Social" is what Palm tried to incorporate with the Pre and now other phones are doing this. The small things that come out on the phone with updates are enough to keep me excited about the phone. No other phone has the capabilities of this one the hardware might not attract everyone but what other handheld can you use to port apps from Iphone, Nokia, and Android, and that is built to handle future apps from the likes of Adobe??? I'm playing 3D Games, while listening to music, and handling business crazy. I bought this phone outright and at first I was skeptical but I waited it out and now I don't regret my decision, I recently convinced my mom to get one on an upgrade and she loves the Pre, and my brother to go with the RadioShack Free Pre "how's that for marketing" overall this phone is great people who are dumping stock I don't believe have even used the phone because the WebOS is "Like a MAC standing around a bunch of PC's" - Lupe Fiasco and they have more than enough features to brag about. I've never owned but I've used an Iphone, G1, MyTouch, HTC Hero and right now no other MOS compares to Palm so +1 for me sticking with WebOS as the BEST choice for a smartphone OS.
