For a while now, the have been ideas of putting a projector in a handheld device. Now with the announcement of Microvision's new Pico Projector and 3M's new 1/2 inch pico projector both announced at CES it sounds like they could be coming very soon. Infact, the first handheld devices with built-in pico projectors are expected to be coming out this year. It could be a possibility that the Palm Elan or a later device could be one of them.

and Modular has pretty much said no to the Elan being a new phone. Just for reference he has a long history of predicting what Palm is doing. He called that NFS was real.

Yeah those Pico projectors are pretty small but it would still make a cellphone waayyy too bulky! You'd have to have some sort of job or need that requires constant need of such a projector to justify the bulk.. the market would be way too small for such a tight focus group.

OTOH, Nikon is coming out with a Pico projector equipped pocket camera. That's gonna sell like hotcakes because it just makes more sense

It would make a lot more sense to provide video out, so that you could run it into an external projector.
