if theyre in an area where 3G coverage is spotty it will prevent the phone from constantly trying to lock on to a 3G signal, thus helping with battery life.

1XRTT only = access only to 1G speeds
EVDO Rev 0 only = access only to 2G speeds
Hybrid Rev 0 = access only to 1G and 2G speeds
EVDO only = access only to 2G and 3G speeds
Hybrid Rev A = access to any data speed available, 1G, 2G or 3G

I find running Hybrid Rev 0 helps to save battery life while still giving access to everything.

    Are you sure?

    I thought 1x was considered a 2G tech
EVDO Rev0 is 3G but with 1x upload speeds (fast download/slow uploads)
EVDO RevA. is 3G but with 3G upload speeds (fast up/down speeds)

My v950 is a EVDO phone, but won't work in areas with Rev 0 because it needs the fast upload speed to be able to use qChat

    According to Palm:

1xRTT (Single carrier [1x] radio transmission technology) is a wireless technology that can provide fast data transfer and Internet access with average speeds of 6080Kbps and bursts up to 144Kbps.

You are in an area that supports BroadbandAccess (EVDO) data services.
EVDO (Evolution Data Optimized) is a wireless broadband technology that is designed for very high-speed data transfer with average download speeds of 400700Kbps, capable of reaching speeds up to1.8Mbps, and upload speeds up to 156Kbps

1x is a part of CDMA2000 (EVDO is also part of that family). 1x would be 2G and EVDO Rev 0, Rev A. and Rev B. are 3G services.

Rumor also has a Rev F (?) that allows data/voice at the same time but there are no carriers moving to Rev F since 4G (WiMax/LTE) allow that anyways

I would assume 1G would be considered analog going off this article
