Default Mobile Hotspot working in 1.4 O2 Germany

***While we are going to permit discussion on the topic of, Palm Mobile Hotspot on other carriers, under no circumstances may you post links to a copy of this software. The Mobile Hotspot app is Palm software and only authorized for distribution by Verizon. Distributing it for other carriers isn’t allowed and violates the user’s agreement with those carriers.***

Thank you for your co-operation.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This info is outdated. Please go to post #38 on page 2 to install the MHS version 1.0.11

Works even on simyo Germany

For you in Deutschland:
To enable the Mobile Hotspot in 1.4 you only have to recreate the /etc/event.d/mobilehotspotd file:

Code:
# This is the job file for mobilehotspotd

start on started PmNetConfigManager

# console output

exec /usr/bin/mobilehotspotd
respawn
Or extract it from WebosDoctor and copy into location.

Reboot and the Mobile Hotspot works again.

EDIT: You may download the file in Post #15

afaik: yes. I downloaded it when on 1.3.5. You have to search for a link, since this is not oficial.

It will not work if your carrier does not allow tethering.
Infos about e.g. sprint can be found in that "mobile Hotspot for Sprint" thread

You need to have the Program "mobilehotspot" installed. Find it in the forum. It was hosted outside of the forum.

Create the startupscript.
You have to be root and write access to the pre:
vi /etc/event.d/mobilehotspotd
paste the posted contend into it.
write/close vi and reboot.

Cheers,

Stu.

Firstly, what does this do? From the sounds of it, allows us to hop on to hotspots?

Secondly, steps would be good for us not blessed with the knowledge...

c_man , this app will make your pre a wireless hotspot so that other devices can connect to the internet through your phones 3g connection.

Hi somline, think I've got it, app is running, showing devices connected, but no internet on laptops connected. Is this because I have done something wrong ? Would I be able to get this far if I hadn't added your file ?
If we can figure this out I can then post instructions for WebOS quick install for others,
many thanks,
Stu.

I had the same the first time. Try diconnecting PC from wlan and connecting again.
(Or maybe even reboot pc)
Its the problem of not getting a valid ip-adress.

Once done it works now for me every time.

Without creating this file you can't start tethering. The mobilhostspot app will tell you: Service not running.
The file in /etc/event.d starts this service.

Just for info guys,
I opened up QI, under tools, selected send file, browsed to somline's file having removed the .txt suffix. Then in destination folder typed "/etc/event.d" without the quotes.
This appears to get the app working although I think I may have O2 problems.
