    What are you asking ?

    GPS does not require a data connection to work. It uses signals broadcast from satellites to determine position above the surface of the Earth.

    Yes GPS does not require data, but as soon as you want your position updated on a map you will need data to redraw your position on the map. If you were able to download a Garmin or Tom Tom self contained app or the equivalent then you would not necessarily need data as the maps would be stored in your device memory.

    Unfortunately, you will likely need data for any real functionality for apps such as google maps, etc.
