Any links to the 1.3.5.2 O2 UK webOS doctor? Palm have removed it from their site...404 everywhere. In desperate need to revert back and get my Pre up and running with Rebel...(just bought it and its running 1.4...)

You can wait and I certainly are not going to push you to try my method since of course there is always small risk that something goes wrong, but don't expect later WebOS version to fix RSC problem. Since this is not a bug and it is most likely meant to prevent RSC to work so the probability that next release would work with RSC is very small. The only thing you can wait is that maybe somebody has the time to figure more better way to deploy this "hack" like an update to meta doctor or that somebody comes up with a better solution like RSC with updated version etc.

Sorry I tried it and worked before the posting, but it seems that the file I tried was cached so it worked because of that

Thanks but is there than any alternative for us that need 1.3.5. I went back to 1.3.1 but now noticed that my Preware is not working because of that

This is extremely frustrating. Going to have to sell my Pre if I can't get it unlocked and to top it off I have already sold my iPhone it's having to be posted out on Monday...so I'll be without a phone.

You are certainly not alone. With this phone I feel me like in a surviving game being in the middle of the jungle. Each weekend I have to spend my time in fixing things ... and I really have better things to do. There are some rumors that Google might be thinking to buy Plam to compete with IPhone. That would be really a relieve.
Now again, the official page of webos versions neither is working. Again I have to search all over. What a waste of time.

Matthew, you should be able to get it from here:
Webos Doctor Versions - WebOS Internals

I got mine working finally after many tries. I want to thank Enrconc because it was his persistence that got me re-trying after many failures.

Original O2 UK Palm Pre WebOS 1.3.1 (locked by manufacturer),
Rebel SIM got it unlocked and it is working fine in Hong Kong's Smartone Vodafone 3G.
Upgraded to 1.3.5.1 (auto Updates, but phone still working OK)
Upgraded to 1.4 (auto Updates, phone worked for a couple of days and then stopped)

So I began my painful journey to find a solution, after many tries I finally got it working again.

0- Instructions for folks using Microsoft Windows XP computer PC

1- downloaded the WebOS Doctor from here:
Webos Doctor Versions - WebOS Internals

2- unzipped the .jar file then in resources folder you'll find WebOS.tar. untar it and get your version of castleumtsfw.tar (try unzip the different .tar files until you find this file)

3- Make sure you have Novacom on your PC, normally when you plug your Palm Pre phone into your PC, it should automatically install Novacom into the PC,
(if you have questions, then go to this URL:
    http://www.precentral.net/how-to-install-homebrew-apps
they have over twenty mentions of the novacom)

4- If Novacom is still not there on your PC then get it from the Palm SDK, goto this URL:
Getting Started - Palm Developer Center
(but i found it hard to install from Palm SDK, so you might want to google for another means)

5- Novacom should now be under your PC directory
    C:\Program Files\Palm, Inc\Novacom\

6- Make sure your Palm Pre phone is in Developer mode by simply pressing upupdowndownleftrightleftrightbastart
(if you have questions, then go to this URL:
    http://www.precentral.net/how-to-install-homebrew-apps)

7- connect your pre to your PC using the USB cable.(select USB mode on the Palm Pre phone) you should now see the phone as a drive on your PC, then copy the castle***fw.tar to your phone in the root directory
(root means the first place that you are at when you first double-click the drive on your PC, no need to go into any other directory)
(it is a good practise to reboot your PC prior to plugging in the USB cable)

8- Unplug the phone from PC (so as to get out of the USB drive mode)

9- Plug your phone into the PC again and now choose just charge mode on the phone

10- Goto your PC and start a Command Prompt
(if you do not know how to get there, then goto Start->Programs->Accessories->Command Prompt)
at the command prompt type the following to get into novacom
    cd\
    cd program files\
    cd palm, inc\
    cd novacom
    novacom -t open tty://

11- you will now see root@palm-webos-device:/#
    follow this

    root@palm-webos-device:/# mv /media/internal/castleumtsfw.tar /tmp
    root@palm-webos-device:/# PmModemUpdater -f </tmp/castleumtsfw.tar

    (NOTE: please use -f,
some folks got it working with PmModemUpdater -m -e </tmp/castleumtsfw.tar but it did NOT work for me at all)

    Optional Step
If you want to stop your phone from doing auto Updates from now on, please follow the instructions on this URL:
    http://forums.precentral.net/gsm-pre...ification.html

the reason is most probably this

you network has its own 3G network but does not own its own 2g network.

when u loose network its needs a full authentication by a reboot to create network keys for that network

turn off 3G and try in 2G then you know if its a 3G issue or another one

Reflashed the fw today with the phone in Airplane mode. First attempt with only the -f paramater failed, novacom process stalled at

A simple reboot fo the phone would restore the network for you

see other post about your network not owning its own 2g network and is renting from another.

try to keep data romaing on in the phone settings and i think then you can go up and down better from 2g to 3g

    Hi All,

Is this a specific problem/resolution for the Rebel SIM user or will it work for everyone?

I have an unlocked Spanish Pre that says it is connected to Movistar, but when I try to make calls, it fails almost immediately. Calling into the Pre says the phone is off the air.
Quick Test gives a Modem 20 error. Palm are suggesting it be sent back to them, but if I can fix it myself, all the better...

    Any thoughts?
    Thanks

I've had the same error, just reflash with webos doctor.

Dear Friends, after successfully installing the old radio fw castleumtsfw to 1.4, I had to go back to 1.3.5 completely, because the App Catalog will not work, plus a couple of other things will not work either. Not sure if it is caused by other problems or what. So, now I am back to 1.3.5 and I have disabled auto update to stop the phone from going back to 1.4.

A quick chat with the RSC sales/support team just now implies that there should be some news about a webos 1.4 compatible upgrade fro the RSC some time this week
