new Pre on friday. updated to 1.3.5 and wanted to try drPodder. Installed it (or tried to) using webosQuickInstall and I noticed on my phone when I unplugged it from my iMac that the cell service bars were flickering.... (?) so I restarted the Pre and now it's a black brick.

I've been charging it, soft reset doesn't work; no backlight, nothing. i've heard some talk about pulling the battery out, but I've also heard that is bad...?

I may be a neophyte here, but seriously, I didn't realize my phone would just break if I tried installing something.

will try that, thanks! should i charge the phone for a couple hours before taking out the battery, or is it a myth that the battery life will be permanently reduced if I remove it?

You can get the same result as taking the battery out without actually taking the battery out by holding down the power button and sliding the mute switch back and fourth 3 times. Make sure you keep holding the power button down while you are sliding the mute switch back and fourth. After you do this, give it 5-10 seconds and you will see the screen fade out and the phone will restart.

yeah, that didnt work at all because the phone was acting as if it didn't have a battery at all- in other words, black screen, no backlight, no icon, no sound, no movement, no recognition of usb plug in, anything.... but the battery-removal seemed to do the trick.

what frightens me is that i have no idea what i did wrong

I had the same problem when I unplugged my Pre from my computer without "ejecting" the hardware first. I was using Windows Vista though, so I don't know if that could be what happened while using your Mac. I'm just trying to give you an idea of what it could have been caused by. I had to plug my pre back in to my computer, let it load and then eject it the right way.

Glad to hear you got it back running again!
