With preware installed, do I need to enter developer mode for every app/patch I want install?
  2. #2
    No.

You only have to be in DEV mode when using WebOSQuickInstall or other programs to install from your computer to your Pre. Once you have Preware, you can install away with or without being in DEV mode.

Is it bad if I turned on dev mode and never turned it off? Will something happen with my Pre?

for security reasons? What can happen?
  7. #7
theoretically someone could write a program to invade your phone with whatever they wanted . but they would have to have your number and know you have the palm pre to do something like that, its very highly unlikely that this would happen unless they sell like 10 million palm pres in the next year or so lol. no haker is gonna attack such a small minority of phones its not worth it to them right now anyways

developer mode inserts a kernel module for usb communication (i.e. not accessible unless you have physical access to the device to plug in the USB cable) and enables novacomd ports for the loopback address only (i.e. not accessible other than from programs already running on the device, like the usb communication kernel module).

well anything is possible when someone can write a program that texts you and can invade your phone just from that text !! hence the virus that has already attacked the iphone down under i believe
