I should be receiving a brand new o2 German Palm pre tomorrow or the day after.
However, the phone is sealed and not yet activated. I am planning to use T-mobile USA(Edge network). Please help me out, I really do not know what to do as soon as I receive it. Can I insert my simcard and start using it since its unlocked? Is their anything I have to do, How can I activate it in the USA? Please help me out guys, I will highly appreciate it. Thanks. |

I am nearly 1,000,000 percent positive that all you need to do to activate it is to insert your sim card. After that, you will want to go through the hack of mapping the keyboard from QWERTZ to QWERTY. Other than that, I don't think there is anyting else.

How exactly do I activate it? do I simply insert my T-mobile simcard as soon as I receive it? or do I have to use some sort of software. Thank you for your response. I just need exact steps so when I receive it, I am not confused. |

I would give it a try with the keyboard untouched, it will feel akward the first week but after that the brain re-learns.
Since you just use your thumbs while typing on a Pre you wont get confused when switching between the Pre and a normal computer keyboard.

The phone has never been activated. Its brand new, sealed. I doubt I could just insert my t-mobile sim and it would start working. I think there has to be a little hassle to it. Thanks for your response pogeypetey Anybody else has any ideas on what to do as soon as I receive it? all I want is, The phone to run data and etc. full access to the app catalog. latest firmware. Thanks. Quote:
Dear, The problem is not the keyboard mapping. Its what do I do when I receive this brand new phone to have it running on T-mobile USA. Its fully unlocked but it has never been activated, not even with o2. Thanks. |

Do you already have T-mobile service? If so, and your SIM card is activated, there is really nothing else that you need to do. T-mobile doesn't need a ESN to activate like unto Verizon or Sprint.

Well,
Don't I need to create a profile? And activate it? I sincerely doubt a german pre would be able to pick up and automatically add an american APN to its database. I read around that people had to use meta doctor or something like that. what your saying is I simply insert my sim and everything will be activated? |

I was reading online how someone took an unlocked HD2 and used it on ATT without doing anything. I really cannot see the Pre being any different. I guess you could join that T-Mobile forum and ask there, or even contact a T-Mobile store and ask them. I understand not wanting to take my word for it. I am not offended.

Haha, Pogeypetey, I hope you know that was not my intention.
I already asked T-mobile they said they don't have a clue. Anyone else want to contribute? I will highly appreciate it. I am very confused. Pogeypetey, Thanks a lot for your help bro. Appreciate it, Like |

If you search through the precentral forums, I think someone has posted that he was able to connect to the T-Mobile USA EDGE data network from the git-go without having to edit his carrier network APN settings. Hopefully that's the case, because I looked around tonight and couldn't locate the post. Maybe you'll have better luck than I did. I am mistaken about that, then yes, you will need to meta-doctor your Pre to get network access via wi-fi, or by adding your network settings in the phone preferences screen, and then you can activate and associate with a Palm profile. NOTE: I've heard a couple members may be having troubles saving their network settings since 1.3.5.1 came out, but hopefully that bug will be gone by the time you get your Pre. Thanks, Barry |
