I'm trying to root my palm to back up my SMS since my current palm pre is a tad 'drunk'. It still works 100% but I'm getting a new one but don't want to lose the SMS data. so far I keep getting to here
    -macbook-pro:~ Dakota$ ./novaterm
-bash: ./novaterm: No such file or directory
    -macbook-pro:~ Dakota$ novaterm
    root@palm-webos-device:/#

I've no clue what I'm doing wrong, i've tried the cd/opt/nova thing
and it says no file and I've downloaded everthing it said to download (SDK and Virtualbox etc) and nothing seems to working...

    Any suggestions?

Use WebOS Quick Install and command line from that.

It's still not working... if I've used the quick install has it rooted my pre for me?

Don't call it with the "./" in front. Novaterm is not located in your homedir. Your second try:

works since it is located at /usr/bin which is in your path.
The last line shows the prompt from your pre. So you are connected.

There is really no such thing as rooting the Pre. WebOSQI will allow you to send and receive files to/from the Pre so you don't even need to go anywhere near the command line. I can't remember what file it is that you need to back up for the SMS though. You need to turn Developer mode on.
