Yesterday I got to go to CES for free!

It was also my first time at CES.

A friend loaned me his badge,
I parked at a nearby casino for free (it's expensive to park close),
I was provided food and drink at the Palm demo room,
I live in Vegas, so no lodging expense.

I was in and out of the Palm lounge all day.

I got to meet several Tweeters, @foxycar, @backlon, @dalmaer, @bgalbs, and several of the other friendly folks from Palm.

Saw Ruby, Katie Mitic, and the Palm software manager (forget his name, who looks way to fancy for a software guy).

Got to watch Dieter tape many of his videos.

I wasn't able to wangle in invite to the Palm announcement, but that was on YouTube in short order.

Meet several folks interested in my Pre. One iPhone guy I met was charging up around midday.

Almost got into a demo of Panasonic's 3D home TV, but the line was to long.

Towards the end of the day, I actually needed my backup battery, a rarity for me.

Nearly all of my wants were announced to be on the way, except:

    Calendar searching,
    Voice dialing,
    Voice commands

I made it to all the halls in the Convention Center. My legs were toast by the end of the day, but that's to be expected.

Checked off one of the things I want to do before I die.

All in all it was a stellar experience!

Don't you know, there's a rule here; No pics = didn't happen. (Shoot, sometimes pics and videos don't even work...)

All I had with me is my Pre. So if you want a shot a little out of flash range and grainy, here it is.

Its Our Dieter working hard for the money.

It's bad, I know, but every time I hear "Dieter", I expect someone to jump out and do a Sprockets routine.

Yes. There were 4 demo stations in the Palm Lounge (behind the camera). It looked like the demoers (?) had their own laptops with them. I saw one Dell and the rest were Mac Books.

Lots of people, me including, have given up on performance killed by anti-virus programs, rebuilding Windows every 6 months to join the Mac revolution. I can run Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Mac OS X all at the same time on my Mac Pro.

    More remembrances from CES.

The MegaSoft booth was enormous. Probably the biggest booth at CES. It has a complex curved part hanging from the ceiling that seemed to disappear around a corner, no matter which way you looked at it.

Kind of reminded me of the endless hours rebuilding Windows where you could not see and end to the rebuild. I used to tell people that I worked for Bill Gates, usually just after another Windows rebuild.

Some areas seemed to have a high concentration of cleavage sell going on. I wonder if there is a an adult zone at CES Its one of the few places nerdy guys can talk to a hot looking woman and have her dutifully listen to him, without paying for it

Some areas had large box enclosures with door entrances. Must be for corporate negotiations. No visible displays. Seemed pretty stark compared to the majority of the booths with splashy displays.

I was wishing I had rented one of those electric carts after a few hours of walking.

Next year my friend said he would get me a badge with my own name on it. Not THAT's a friend!

Wouldn't you just keep the MBP and run the whole HD on bootcamp/win7? It's still nice hardware without the O/S :-)
