Article in French local press, written by a correspondent who's in CES 2010, reports that:

    - the Pre Plus and Pixi Plus will be sold here (this is logical, since the telecom, SFR, is owned at nearly half by Vodafone, who also owns half of Verizon, who'll be getting the Pluses in the US)

    - the Pre Plus will be sold at around 150 EUR with a 2 year contract and the Pixi Plus at 50-60.

12 month contracts are possible; the price of the phone doesn't change, but the monthly cost is more expensive.

Then we'll have to assume that the Pre and Pixi Plus are available in GSM as well. But only for the French market?

Apparently it has been reported that the build quality on the Pre+ has been improved, keyboard and slider mechanism.

BTW, Palm never did mention that the Pre+ will be available in GSM at today's CES, are we sure that that correspondent didn't get mixed up?

Thats true.. it was said that it will be exclusive on Verizon... this would mean no new devices in europe.. but.. I dont belive this would be a clver move.. to give the frenches only a "outdated" device...

All newsfeeds are pointing to a release of the Plus models in France. Concerning the simlock, here's from Wikipedia:

    France

In France, SIM locks are not prohibited. However, the mobile operator must inform the consumer of the existence of a SIM lock. The subscriber has the right to request that the SIM lock be removed at any time. No later than 6 months prior to the conclusion of the contract, the mobile operator must "systematically and free of charge" provide the subscriber with a procedure to deactivate the SIM lock.[19] Operators may charge a fee for removing the SIM lock prior to the 6-month deadline.

I posted a comment yesterday asking them if they didn't get confused. Let's see if they answer me.

And apparently, someone got the information somewhere that those phones will be available in France around april.

Apparemment, la sortie serait vers le 10 avril 2010 ! Encore quelques mois à attendre !

SFR vendra les téléphones Pre et Pixi de Palm en mars - high tech - Challenges.fr

The above article uses information apparently given by SFR's communications director to the AFP. Nexus One in February and Pre+ and Pixi+ in April.

"Jean-Marc Tassetto a indiqué qu'il espérait que ses clients les plus "pro" seraient sensibles à l'occasion de réveiller avec le Pre+ la "Belle au bois dormant" qu'était devenu Palm, ancien pionnier des assistants numériques longtemps dépassé par le virage de la téléphonie mobile."

We have to wait for the specs officially mentionned by Palm or SFR to be shure...

Anyway, as usual, the device should be AZERTY: There is no stock of unsold units of this new model, which production should be starting in China for April:
Logically, the French Pre should be a Plus.

I agree, but the story that French will be getting the Plus versions is getting picked up by all feeds and tech blogs, so SFR better get their damage control out there quick if it's not true. By quick, I'm thinking today is a good idea.

One small, probably unrelated note: on the Palm.com site for France (Palm FR - Mobile produits pour les consommateurs, les professionnels et les entreprises), the image of a Pre "1" is still there, although the first page now has "Bientôt chez SFR" - "Soon from SFR.", and the page where you can normally put your e-mail address has added name and mobile number fields, obviously for an SMS notification.

I signed up (for the third time!!!) of course...

Yeah but the Palm FR website is probably just a copy from the German one. Palm FR: M'avertir has a QWERTZ Pre "1"..
    My Palm History (in order): IIIe SE, m130, Tungsten|T, m505, Tungsten|T3, Zire 71, m505 (owned two different ones), Zire 72, Tungsten|C, T|X, Treo 650.
After that I got a Apple iPhone 3G, Palm Pre (GSM), Google Nexus One.

Yep! SFR just mentionned today in an official statement that both of "Plus devices" will be available in march...

Here's the link to the official statement.

I didn't bother with a Google translate, since the only word we're looking for is "Plus" after the Pre. Yippee. SFR uses GSM, not CDMA, of course.

This confirms that Verizon "exclusivity" is only for the US, and opens the door to speculation that there'll be a GSM QWERTY Pre Plus out there soon...

This is how much Palm thinks about Europe - not even a press release about their partnership with SFR. Actually you can search palm.com for SFR and not find any match!
