How can I delete Yahoo IM contacts from my contacts list? When I swipe the contacts that I wish to delete it tries to do it then it pops up "yahoo IM contacts cannot be deleted. I tried removing the Yahoo account from my pre and then tried deleting but the same message comes up. I would hate to be stuck with contacts that somehow got into my list that I don't even talk to. Any help would be appreciated...

Delete them from your computer and then let the account sync back. Yahoo contacts are read only on the device any interaction with them has to be done from the computer.

Tried that already. Then re synced account and they're still there. I'm puzzled....

Do you still have messages/IMs saved from them? Are they linked to other contact info in any way? (e.g. IM name linked to a phone number)? Either one might end up making it want to 'keep' them even if the source contact info was deleted....

Just a guess, I have no specific knowledge in this area....

Never had an IM message on phone from any of them(contacts I want gone) and none are linked or synced to any other contacts.

Since you have deleted them from the computer have you removed the Yahoo account from the contact application and IM application?

If you haven't done that, then do those steps then readd the Yahoo account to contacts and messaging and see if they reappear.

Didn't have the IM application removed and just got off the phone with palm. Removing that did the trick. Thank You

same problem for me with my ICQ-contacts
I don't want to delete them from ICQ but don't need most of them for my contacts app
Any help or patch to get this done?

Maybe a tweak that you can choose, which groups from your list are listed would be good, because you still have the contacts in IM but not in the phonebook.

If it's the same problem that I had, you also have to remove the messaging account from the PRE. When you open messaging open message drop down, accounts and preferences, select that account,ie yahoo or ICQ, and delete from PRE. If you only want certain ones(contacts) to come back you have to delete the ones you don't want back on your computer and then resync the account. Both mail and messaging accounts have to be removed from phone...Then back up phone and they shoud be gone... Hope that helps ya..........

I can certainly understand your situation but I don't think it is possible at this time to just add an AIM or YahooIM account to the phone without adding the mail account also which all go to the contacts. There should probably be a "Tiger" Patch to allow this. You'll have to request to the higher powers...Being WebOsInternals and Jason and all the other tremendous developers out and in here.....

If you want to add an IM account without adding contacts email caledar it is possible but requires a little work

    1. Add the account
    2. Navigate to a section you don't want the data to appear (Contacts for example)
    3. Select preferences and accounts
    4. Select the account
    5. Remove the account

Repeat the above steps for each PIM database you do not want the account to be synced with, it will remain in the other choices that you do not delete.

    Synergy accounts are
    IM
    Contacts
    Calendar
    Email

I'm going to try AIM now, but it had better work, lol

...now all my AIM contacts are in my Contacts.

Went to select the account for removal and it doesn't list an AIM profile!!!!

Great, ugh...I literally have 500-600 AIM contacts.

What do you suggest I do now?

Phew, removed the IM account and it removed them from my contacts.

I think the issue is that you can only remove listed account types. The defaults for adding a contacts account are:

    Google
    Facebook
    Microsoft Exchange
    LinkedIn
    Yahoo

So removal would only be supports for the Yahoo IM and Google Talk accounts, but not the AIM accounts, bummer.

I'm hoping to see sync with MSN Messenger soon as well.

Contacts and IM are linked together, meaning your IM contacts are going to be in your Contacts, so you can't remove contacts and for it to not remove your IM contacts, now if that list is different then you can. As in have contacts in Google that are not IM contacts.

Your case of AIM did not work because AIM only syncs IM contacts so all your IM contacts went to Contacts as well and falls under the first thing I mentioned in this post.
