Sup fellas, So i've been meaning to photoshop this for a while now, but been too lazy, however i got it done tonight. I was wondering why didnt palm come up with this design in the first place that i posted below. This would resolve the need for any cheesy virtual keyboard and also make the phone more innovating then it already is.. Personally i use my phone in landscape mode most of the time, but i hate having to flip the phone to type something...

Come on palm. Make it happen, Ill only charge you 50% for my design idea, lol j/k..

Anyway, what do you guys think?

That is not an original idea, but a nice looking mockup. Back when the Pre was first rumored, that was one of the form-factors people were discussing.

Is that the phone Tony Stark had in "Iron Man?" </nerd>

Very cool...but they have build problems with just a slider. A twist phone would scare the crap out of me as far as the build quality would be concerned.

Here is the proto-pre that was before the actual Pre. http://forums.precentral.net/members...-new-palm.html
Why can't the mobile device manufactures get that most want a touch screen and a front face QWERTY?

wow..that looks like it would have too many moving parts to have to worry about.

would be cool though, but no way.

damn that is one hot looking "pre" pre!

i wish they would have kept that design minus some stuff like that touchpad on the bottom

I was just thinking about this the other day. I'd be interested in seeing what it would look like if the screen wasn't centered on the keyboard. You know like in the shape of a "7" as against the shape of a "T". Just saying but nice idea though.

I sorta was thinking about the pre having a swivel/jack knife design...like the old sony ericsson s710 I used to have...was kinda bulky...but had same curves as pre...but just imagine it...to be able to text in portrait or landscape..maybe 2 gesture areas? (1 inside..1 out?)..would anyone mock it up?...

    It's also huge.

My friend had a phone similar to this design. I didn't like it that much.

You guys thought the "Oreo effect" was bad now, this design practically guarantees high failure rates given the Pre's less than stellar hardware.

Sorry, I already did this a while ago. :-)
    http://forums.precentral.net/palm-pr...ix-inside.html

    Basically,
This is our beloved Pre, with the background I use:

Great eh? A QWERTY keyboard and everything.
But uhh, what about landscape mode?
Dual Sliders a good idea, but not that appealing.

Here is where the oreo effect comes into place.
You slide the screen out, and rotate it.

Here is a better image, where I modified the perspective to make it look a bit more realistic. It's still a bit off, but atleast the screen is facing parallel to the keyboard.

In reality, there should be more space. This could allow for a dedicated number row. There could also be a D-Pad above the actual keyboard.

Haha, this is just a funny idea I thought of.
Bad photoshopping, I know... I tried.
To be honest, I don't know if it's even achievable hardware-wise (I don't think it is)...

Just wanted to see what everyone thought of it.

I'd be happy with just a landscape mode keyboard (cf LG KS360).

When I'm doing text entry it always seems easier to read in landscape - though I am learning to type with they keyboard at 90 degrees to the usual orientation now.

Yeah, that design wouldn't last a week without falling apart.
