Now that we know that palm will be at ces i am starting to speculate and wonder. Everyone is wondering if palm will have a pre2 i personally do not think so. What i am thinking though is that they will have an updated pre with more memory as almost everyone here has mentioned. in addition to having more memory it would be in palms interest if they would change the current processor to the TI OMAP 36x.

    Specs-
    720 to 1ghz
    75% better graphics performance
    more power efficient
and its cheaper than the omap 3440 our current one

This would dramatically improve speed on the pre and yield to better battery life. Palm really needs to impress people on verizon and on at&t and frankly the phone does not cut it to stand out against the rest performance wise. Not webos wise.

Forum member kedar uses smartflex 600mhz and says his pre feels 2x as fast and says his battery life is amazing. These are things needed so that people can be comfortable using the phone. Cause excluding the apps factor its a little frustrating using the phone when we have this lag/latency.
    What do you guys think

For the pre2 though i would like to see either tegra 2 or the omap 4.

Do you think apple will come out with an upgraded iphone and if they do how do you think palm will combat it specs wise.

Ruby keeps saying how much he likes a family of products. We may see some completely new hardware.

Actually, I suspect something like that too.
I don't think they'll go all out, but a subtle performance upgrade that is noticeable.

They might push the envelope. I would love to see tegra 2 or OMAP 4 show up in a new device. However, all that power is worthless if you can't get the GPU up and running.

I can't imagine that they'd manage to keep a new device (or even a significant upgrade) under wraps with less than a month to go. I'm guessing they'll announce the new carriers--AT&T and Verizon--and perhaps a significant software update. Regarding the latter, I'm guessing we'll have video recording and Flash (beta) and perhaps some work toward GPU support. Also, I'm expecting other API support, such as access to the mic.

OMAP4 doesn't really exist yet. I mean, the boards exist, yes, but they don't plan on mass producing it until the third quarter of 2010, I believe.

Tegra 2 similarly hasn't been produced in mass yet, and won't until 2010 (and I'd again bet the second half of the year).

And I don't personally think Tegra or Snapdragon will be in a new model Pre either. The Tegra CPU is slower than the A8, so that wouldn't make sense (especially since webOS doesn't yet support the GPU), and the Snapdragon is pretty much a higher clocked version of the A8, so I don't see them replacing the entire SoC when they're not using the highest clocked OMAP3 yet.

Assuming they release any newer speced device at all (and I don't count a flash memory boost as that), the OP is most likely correct, that it'll be the 45nm (die shrink for less power use, heat, and smaller chip) OMAP36xx with a clock bump, if they want to increase the specs.

    I can't wait for an A9-based webOS device, but I'd guess that'll be 2011's device, not 2010.

device will be 2nd fiddle to a new desktop media sync client they will unvail, along with a new public acceptance and embrace of the symbiosis between the corporate side and homebrew side of webos. People will use words like "paradigm shift" and other babble.

or just more memory, flash and the nfs demo reveald as true.

    or just memory and partners.

Just that online SDK thingie, app catalog out of beta, Flash from Adobe if it doesnt happen before the end of the year.

The Pre will get a bit more memory. I doubt it will get snapdragon, but it could happen. I think palm will hold their cards closer(get it) this time around wrt the Pre 2 and do a more specialific unveiling sometime in the Spring.

To book such a big hall and do justice to it, here's my speculations:

    1. A new phone - perhaps a new Treo running WebOS (which means Pre-like or better specs with a higher capacity battery in the Pixi form factor, and hopefully, a slightly bigger screen than the Pixi)

    2. Ares

    3. A significant update to WebOS that will be "coming soon in 1st half of 2010", GPU and Flash being highlighted for sure

    4. Official launch of the App Catalog out of beta with some "star" apps from big developers

App catalog will be non beta by end of December. My money is on Ares and other carriers.

You'll never see Palm develop a desktop media sync application in house.

Yup thats exactly why we wont see a pre 2 there are no chips on the market yet for it and snapdragon is crap people dont understand that clock speed isnt everything. Just mentioned those chips cause eventually thats what i want to see in the next pre not not at this next ces.
Now what i do expect to see is palm demonstrating significant changes in the os
    expect to see
    Gpu support
Video recording if its not out on 1.3.5
    flash
    Ares
    verizon Pre-memory upgrade
    upgrade to sdk

    What i wish to see
Plans for web os 2.0 webgl
    Customization
    desktop sync
    virtual keyboard
Change in processor to omap 36x
