Is this working for anyone since installing the webOS 1.3.1 update. I believe I followed the instructions correctly, but have nothing but a blank box where my avatar should be. Thanks!

What I don't understand is... why can't you just use a contact's picture instead? Would be nice if the patch included that .

Using webOS Quick Install, I named it "my-avatar.png" and placed it in:

    /usr/palm/applications/com.palm.app.messaging/images/

I did drag-and-drop it, but it still doesn't show up in my texts.

Drag and drop worked perfectly for me but the image must be named "my-avatar.png"

I named it "my-avatar.png" and dragged-and-dropped it. Still nothing, but a blank box where the avatar should be.

I have a question, how do you get a png file.

I took a picture but it's coming out in .jpg.

If I just rename it to .png will that be good enough or is there some sort of converter?

    Thanks!

You need to convert the jpg to a png. Simply changing the file extension usually corrupts the file. You can convert it with your favorite image editing software by opening the jpg and then saving it as a png. Many viewers (Irfanview is a great one) include a "save as" option the file menu allowing you to choose the format of any open image you wish to re-save.

    I'm having the same issue.

40x40 .png file named "my-avatar.png" sitting right at the root of my USB drive. (IE: Not in a folder) and Messaging won't pick it up.

I've even uninstalled the patch, restarted my pre, reinstalled the patch, and restarted my pre.

No change, the messaging App still won't pick up the avatar.

    Any ideas?

Ive been trying to get this work too, its one of my favorite patches, all I get is the blank box where my avatar should be.
I would love to know if its my phone or a patch conflict with 1.3.5

I dont want to Dr the phone if I dont have to..Patiently waiting for the repair utility to be updated then I'll give that a shot.
