Clearly, the folks at Palm are suffering from having too many Touchstones sitting around. For those of us who wanted a smartphone for MOBILE PRODUCTIVITY (what a concept)...this battery life issue is getting intolerable. From the beginning I had to go with a 3rd party solution, buying a Seidio Extended Battery. Now, even thst suffers from rapid drain under 1.3.1. I don't have time to test out if it's Yahii I'm or calendar. This phone is turning out to be a bigger headache than any product out there has a right to be. And to all of you who will come to Palm's defense because I decided to be an early adopter.....this was never advertised as a beta product. It's the first version of a product that acts more like a prototype...major unusable flaws and all.

Do you have time to see if you have Yahoo Calendar or Contacts enabled?
(Calendar or Contacts - Preferences & Accounts - Yahoo... )
If so, remove em. Simple. Keep in mind, if they are there, you had
to have added the Yahoo synergy yourself *after* 1.3.1 was installed.

I don't use Yahoo messenger, but I do use Yahoo calendar. I have that installed and I'm not seeing the battery drain problems. It appears that Yahoo contacts specifically is the issue. The Yahoo Calendar "synergy" seems to be working quite efficiently.

I am having much better batter results. Used to lose ~20% overnight when not on the charger and now ~10% drop overnight.

Obviously not everyone is an expert like you.
I agree. While i thanked ian for his answer, and am now giving that approach a try, I am also one of those who never saw any drastic battery activity change through any other updates.

So i think it should be important to stick a disclaimer or note on the 1.?.? updates forum stickie when the next one drops.

that said, can I get some clarification on what everyone means by using/having a Yahoo account going? I have a (2) yahoo email account(s) sync'd to the Pre, but i never us IM for either. It's purely email, with an hourly update. So when everyone refers to Yahoo, are they meaning that their email is possibly draining the battery, or that their IM is draining the battery? Or is the contact info sync from yahoo running so often that IT is draining the battery?

If that is the claim (the last part) then i will have to contest that. I didn't update my email after 1.3.1, so those contacts never got added to my profile, and i still had the phantom drain.

Can you use the Seidio 2600 battery with the TouchStone?

Ok, lemme make this clear again.
The fact that it loses calibration means that the battery UI % becomes
unstuck from the actual battery %. The mapping between the two
has to be rebuilt. But, this means you *may* see drastically better
usage, or worse usage, or it might just randomly be almost the
same as it was before so you notice nothing. Just because something
is not calibrated, doesn't mean that it isn't accurate. It's just a
coincidence when it is. What I was trying to get across to people
before is that the only way to make *sure* that you're really
seeing what you think you're seeing after *every* update is
to let it go through 3-4 full charge/discharge cycles meaning you
need to let it run down most of the way and charge it all the way to
100% several times before it's guaranteed to reflect what's
    really going on.

After that period (takes 2-3 days) then you can see what legitimate
battery issues there may be, such as the Yahoo problems, which
    I'll talk about next.

Here's what happened to a lot of people after the 1.3.1 update.
They *chose* to add Yahoo IM synergy (go into Messenger,
Prefs & Accounts and add a new account for Yahoo IM).
Problem is, when you do that (assuming it works at all), it also
automatically adds Yahoo Contacts, Yahoo Calendar, and Yahoo Email.
What many of us have found is that Yahoo Contacts in particular
is a huge battery sucker, and the best way to fix it, is just to remove it.
Some report that Yahoo Calendar is ok. I noticed that the Yahoo Email
account (which was new.. I had not added before) was automatically
set up with a push profile (get email - "as items arrive") which is
    also another known battery sucker.
I removed Yahoo Calendar and Contacts, and changed Yahoo Email
to manual (or 30 minute poll) and my battery usage has gone back
    to normal.

Your 2 Yahoo Email accounts shouldn't be a problem unless you
have them set up with "as items arrive" or a very short poll interval.
I use 30 minutes for all my other email accounts and that is low drain.

However, I think you should still go look at your Calendar Prefs
and make sure that a Yahoo profile wasn't created there, just to
be sure. If you only have Yahoo Email, then yes your problem is
    probably somewhere else.
