I have the $7/month insurance. If I want to pay the $100 deductible and replace my Pre, does it matter what the problem is? Can they turn me down if it's "not serious enough?"

If it's not serious enough just take a few mm off with an electric plainer...problem solved.

Morbid curiosity.....what is the back story here?

    Dropped it twice:

First time, a centimeter-long piece of plastic chipped off of the top of the device.

Second time, got a scratch on the screen that I can visibly see while using it and can feel with my thumb every time I scroll down a page.

you will have to have some type of damage to your phone. physical damage will require you to pay your insurance deductible.
