Last weekend I updated to webOS QI v2.8.2 and loaded some of the advanced tweaks (from Online Repository tab). I then loaded Preware and everything seems to be working fine except that shortly thereafter I lost my 'da-doink' sound and the vibration when I receive an SMS notification. I wondered if it had to do with the SMS Tone Per Contact tweak so I removed it but still no sound/vibration alert.

Anyone know how I can get this back or what else to troubleshoot? I really rely on the feature.

    Thanks!

From the title, I was really expecting a very different post...

in sounds settings when you add the sms tone per contact patch it defaults to no sound file. you have to choose one from the settings.

    Viva Viagra maybe?

OK, seriously; if you don't want to just punt and start all over, get the WebOS Repair, run it once without correcting anything, and look over the log to see if you can figure out what you might want to revert back to get your groove back...

Well, I should have known what I'd get with a title like this, but thanks for the love and ...err, helpful suggestions!

I did notice in the newly added Alert/Notification/Messages selector in the Sounds & Ringtones app that by default "Messages" was set to "Pick an [sic] message," and when I edit a contact that there is a "MSGTONE" option set by default to "Set a message tone." That led me to believe initially that this may be what's going on, but I didn't chose anything yet because my only options are pre-loaded Pre ringtones which do not include the default notification.wav (yes, I know I can test with any one of them, but I just haven't yet; I also think I have the notification.wav that I can manually load in my ringtones folder as an option, which I plan to do).

Anyway, that said, let me ask a different but related question: Can someone list the difference between an Alert, Notification, and Messages(tone)/MSGTONE? I keep getting confused with this terminology since I receive popup "Notifications" of emails (could be referred to as "messages"), texts/SMS, calendar appointments (alarms?), and low battery (alerts?).

Thanks for any insight into the new Pre terminology.

I actually do NOT have any themes loaded.

I haven't looked closely at this utility, but I'll give it a look after I test some individual SMS tones and load the notification.wav into my ringtones folder. Thanks!

Well, I did confirm that the SMS Tone Per Contact patch does set the SMS notification to NOTHING by default. After setting it (as well as testing individual contact tones), I have found what I lost. However, I'm still not certain why I didn't have my notifications sound/vibration when I REMOVED the patch. Maybe some residual files cause this?

    Glad you found your vibrator!!
    Dear Santa,

I've been as good as I could be this year and all I want on my Pre is an on-screen keyboard, a real Face Book app, visual voicemail and video recording.
If you could bring this in any of the updates by Christmas, then I promise to be extra good next year! Thanks a bunch!

    xoxo,
    Kady
