AutoCorrect Edit Dictionary Entries

Hi all,

So many more users are now using AutoCorrect Edit, and I thought I'd share my shortcuts. I use the autoreplacement feature of the Pre more for shortcuts than fixing mis-spellings. I'd rather type as few letters as possible for the most common words I type (via email, web postings, etc.).

My hope is that it will give us all good ideas for new common word entries. Ideally, we might find some type of convention for shortcut-to-full-spelling translation. This is for the benefit of the ACE community, and users of similar apps on other platforms.

I used to use CorrectHack and Textras back in the day on the older Treos. What are similar apps on other platforms?

I love this program, Rick.

I seem to have some issues using it in messaging on the Pre (only tried in texting), whereas it seems to work as I expect in an email message. Is it designed to work in messaging? Thanks! (It could be that I have some errors in my text edit autoreplace file.)

It's designed to work in any text field that "allows auto-correction". This is a text-field setting that can be turned on or off in Pre apps.

The messaging, email, memo pad, and most apps allow auto-replacement to occur. I haven't had any issues in the messaging app.

Password fields (especially those that mask your characters) won't allow it. Even the ones on the Pre's browser.

Be sure you use the "Activate Changes" menu item after adding one or more entries to make sure those entries are "active" and can be used. The changes don't become immediately active upon entering them via the app or via USB connection.

I never can remember my license plate, so I set "licenseplate" to autocorrect to my plate number.

That's a long shortcut. Why not use "lplate" or just "lp"? Glad you like the program.

It should be working in the messaging app. It works for me.
Are you talking SMS messages, or chat, or both?
I really only use SMS, and it works in the field at the bottom.
Are you using Palm's app, or a 3rd Party replacement?

I like to use this app to enter full sentences. I am in a piano tuning service business and often append the contact note record with a date followed by something like "Piano Tuning 87., pitch raise 58., hammer reshaping 55. With this program I can type "tph" and it types the whole sentence out! Or I have it set up to put in any combination by just typing "t" or "tp" etc. I also like being able to make it put in whole month name for "Nov" to November and the whole day for "sat" to Saturday. Another use is when entering addresses: I get tired of putting in the whole city state and zip with every new customer entry ...so now "gr" types "Granger, IN 46530" and I have done the same for other cities. Most of the time I include zip since it is often the same for the whole city. I am thinking about using the same tactic for entering phone extensions quicker. This app fixes a hole I had with web OS coming from 15 years of Palm OS use! Now I just need "ds" to stamp today's date and I would be in hog heaven!

Never liked the way that app behaved, but I do edit the autocorrect file by hand myself. Here are some of mine:

it would take me longer to figure out how to use the shortcuts then it would to type it myself

. my wife will love this program, as i usually have no idea what she is saying. i wish there was a program for translating texts that were sent with words like above. people get mad at me when i ask them to send a message i can understand

It isn't hard to use a shortcut. Just type the shortcut word and press space, period, comma, or any of a number of other word delimiters.

Eg. (don't consider the quotes as part of what needs to be typed)
Type: "sc[space]"
And it becomes: "shortcut " <--- Note the space after the word
