I really hate that when composing
an email the Pre capitalizes the
first character in each line. This
is also the case with most text
areas on the web. What possible
thought process whas used to arrive
at the conclusion that this would
ever be useful rather than a grave
    annoyance?

    Thankfully, this forum window
doesn't seem to suffer from the
    affliction.

webOS only does this at the beginning of new sentences. As long as you are letting the sentences wrap and not using a carriage return to arbitrarily start a new line you shouldn't be having any issues.

Oh, I see. I still strongly disagree
    with the programming. A carriage
return should not indicate the end
of a sentence. I never allow an
email client to wrap my text; too
often someone else's client will then
display my message as very long
    lines.

Actually it indicates the end of a paragraph (which would also end the sentience).

The paragraph can't end without some punctuation.

Your inability to correctly punctuate does not change the fact that the sentence/paragraph has reached a conclusion.
