Well, I will certainly call them tomorrow to see what they say. But if Palm's customer service is anything like Sprint's, I'm sure we'll hear different answers.

please use google/gmail from now on since you will loose everything if saved in the palm profile
or if you have extra money for 3rd party softwares, use chapura or companionlink
both softwares backup data in microsoft outlook or palm desktop 6.2

data loss may happen especially for contacts after a partial erase, running webos doctor or a webos update

palm server is not what they say it should as advertised... B E W A R E!!!

Well, I had a pain in the *** today. I had gone to Sprint the other day, and they ordered me a replacement Pre. I knew it'd be 1.3.1 and I've had issues before, where an older version didn't sync the contacts back after a WebOS Doctor - until it updated and I did a re-redo.

But, knowing that, I made SURE that I'd done a backup to the "cloud" before I exchanged it. Oh, yeah, and I backed up PalmDatabase.db3 on my rooted Pre before I wiped it out (I'm not giving Sprint a phone full of data). So, being that it's a SQLite database, and there's a perl script out there that rips the contacts into a Google format... I actually lost nothing.

But I had to import them to Google. Which is now what I think I'm going to use for contacts...

Wow, are you kidding me? I would expect a company that is storing many people's data on a remote server would have some kind of redundancy... like a disaster recovery center.

Palm's IT infrastructure fails...

It's going to be very hard to get all my contact information back.

Same here.. not quite sure what to do at this point

I even missed some classes because my calendar events and alarm notifications were no longer there. Not to mention this phone is my business phone and I NEED those contacts back..!

..and here I thought it was just me.

Just exchanged my Pre today to have my replacement phone pull in only 6 contacts off my Palm Profile. Went back and fourth with Sprint and Palm only to have Palm tell me "sorry, it's all gone!" Palm tech told me I should only put new contact info into Google.

Thanks Palm!!

YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

My brother's Pre barely activated and has yet to access EVDO.

I hope this gets resolved quick. I was on the phone with Sprint for hours, then I returned the phone, got another and same problem.

I'm sitting here with a brand new shiny paperweight since it won't let me create a new Palm Profile.

Edit: I'm replying to the first post. Not the people losing contacts.

Me too. I did a partial erase. I only got back my 10 out of hundreds of contact, 9 out of 300 memos, and 2 out of 10 tasks, a few calendar appoinments out of hundres.
It seems like only those contacts, memos, tasks and calendar that were recently accessed got saved. Apparently, Palm profile did not synchronize the whole list.

The recent memos got brought back (the 2 out of MANY) but the weird thing was I think the contacts that I got back were the first handful I ever put on.. , and your lucky, I got NO calendar events... Overall I am severely disappointed.

Default Do Not attempt Partial erase or Full erase, Possible Palm Profile data loss

I just did a partial erase. Palm profile lost most of my contacts, memos, tasks, and calendar appointments. That happened to quite a few other people too.
I don't know how widespread is the problem, but beware.

This happened to me yesterday! ALL my contacts, memos, tasks, calandar, etc. Are gone. I even resorted to full erase hoping that would work, so all my awesome pics are GONE!

Make the phones ring over there...they cannot expect people too just say 'OH WELL'. There must be some backup, even though they said there is no way to revert to a previous backup.

Not a good move Palm. Now is more crucial than ever to be buttoned-up.

Default PalmProfile Backup is a real mess !

Dear Derek,

I know you heard it before and also made a several postings in the
news
(http://www.precentral.net/paid-app-a...aks-mini-havoc)
about this, but it seems Palm has a real big problem in their backup
system.

It really seems sometimes only the last edited items are saved in the
backup:
http://forums.precentral.net/general...-paid-app.html
http://forums.precentral.net/palm-pr...data-loss.html
http://forums.precentral.net/palm-pr...s-missing.html
http://forums.precentral.net/webos-s...lled-back.html
http://forums.precentral.net/general...you-trust.html
http://forums.precentral.net/palm-pr...-problems.html
http://forums.precentral.net/palm-pr...ctor-help.html
http://forums.precentral.net/palm-pr...y-conacts.html
http://forums.precentral.net/palm-pr...acts-lost.html

http://forums.precentral.net/webos-s...ckin-joke.html
http://forums.precentral.net/palm-pr...s-working.html
http://forums.precentral.net/webos-s...-all-data.html
http://forums.precentral.net/general...you-trust.html
...

And if you go to this threads there are dozens saying they have had
same issues, can't think of all the usual users not posting in forums.

Possible homebrew solution:
http://forums.precentral.net/palm-pr...-easy-too.html

Please make this one big, it seems it has nothing to do with EU
Backup cause there are many 1.3.1 updaters having the same problem.
Palm can't be serious to provide such a buggy solution while
propagation the partial/full erase option at any possible
supportproblem with the phone.

This has to reach Palm PLEASE !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Greets Gizmo

btw. I'm with Chapura Echo right now, but still hoping for a SyncML
solution for homeservers (funambol) in the future, cause there is
still no backup solution for memos and tasks which get lost to when
backup fails !

Yet another example of hype with nothing to 'back it up'.

Default webOS dr and palm profile

After running webOS dr (did a palm backup right before I did it), why did it not restore anything after I entered my palm profile info once the phone restarted??

What is the best way to keep this from happening in the future?
