Found the solution!!! After talking to a Palm Engineer they said that the handset needs to have the latest webOS!

So here is how you can get the Palm Profile to backup your info correctly:

    1. Sign in Pre with your profile.
    2. Update your handset (if exchanged from Sprint it may have something older then 1.2.1)
    3. Reboot if necessary.
    4. Do a partial erase (so you can get rid of existing info)
    5. Reboot.
    6. Re-enter your Palm Profile info.
    7. Watch info repopulate into your new device.

    ENJOY!

That's the same thing a Palm tech told me and it did nothing for me

I believe an auto-backup from a fresh WebOS image w/o Palm Profile contacts, memos, tasks overrode the data on the server.

The tech said he will have a specialist call me tomorrow.

from now on keep everything google and print a hard copy, or if you are lucky enough to have exchange use the options from there. No say this is Palm's fault. Hardware fails and consumers need to be more educated about it. IMHO
Wrong, it is Palms fault. They should provide a safe and effective way to backup the device to your Local machine.

We need to get a group of people together to get a class action suit against Palm over this issue. I have lost time and money from losing my business contacts. Message me if interested.

I did a clean install yesterday only to find my contact are gone. I'm still hearing this is a server issue. How come no response from Palm?

Actually, the functionality wasn't a secret. If you didn't agree with how Palm was implementing the cloud's functionality, you were not forced to buy a Pre.

Using Google as a secondary backup is what most do and adding Outlook as well serves as a third backup which are both accessible on your PC.

    Just my 2cents.

I just lost all my contacts after using webos doctor. I would like to know if anyone has a resolution for this as well.

I'm going to add my name to the list of those who lost their contacts. After doing webos doctor and updating to 1.3.1, I lost all my contacts but 1.

    bpdamas, thanks for the tip.

this is almost precisely what we did when troubleshooting. after the restore failed we waited about half an hour. we confirmed the phone had not backed up yet, then performed a full reset and started over.

we had the same problem. later, we performed a partial reset with no change in behavior.

we confirmed before deactivating the old phone that it said the backup was successful. we had checked it a few times over a week or two period and each time it said the backup was successful.

well i guess i should join the banwagon... I too did the "update" and LOST everything! after the update (which installed without my permission unless it did something in the middle of the night and I hit install now instead of later) anyway I had to do a doctor on it because I didn't have all the patches and theme uninstalled!!! after the doctor, I signed into my palm profile and NOTHING came back... Lost over 500 contacts, i do have them on google so got them back and my calendar but now I have about 4 enteries for each contact because one for each of, google, hotmail, facebook, yahoo!!! Synergy is Apparently NOT working at ALL!!! When will PALM fix this???? just imagine what my "contacts" looks like! 3-5 enteries for EVERY contact!!!

    GGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRR...

I have the same problem. Did the same thing-used WebOS Doctor and afterwards, I lost some contacts. My Google and Yahoo contacts came down from the cloud but the majority of my contacts (the ones I entered manually on the phone so should have been backed up to the palm profile) were not retrieved when I logged in after the Doctor was finished. As of now, I still don't have them. I even e-chatted with Palm yesterday and there was no mention of their servers being down. He couldn't figure out what was wrong and eventually just gave me links to Palm Desktop and DTA software so that I can salvage some of the contacts that are on my wife and son's cell phones.

    Same issue here...

I decided I wanted to do a full restore. So prior to that i went to BACKUP and preformed a manual backup. I then did the restore and entered all the info for my accounts. I was left with NO telephone numbers from my palm account. Only what ever numbers was from google or facebook. This blows big time!

This is not the first time either. I had to replace my first phone.... The First phone I had spent alot of time cleaning up all my contacts and linking profiles. When that phone was replaced with my current phone nothing I had done had saved, but at-least the numbers had saved restored.
