This MUST BE the day Palm is fixing things because I also got a call from Palm! They were able to finally restore my phone contacts etc! From what I was told, they keep EVERY back up that your phone does! Unfortunately the way the restore works if you try to do it yourself is it will only restore that last backup though. The Palm engineers must set your account temporarily to allow their level 3 technicians to access the other backups. They are only able to see the file sizes and not contents though. They will choose the largest file available unless you tell them otherwise and set that one to be the restore point on your phone. They will then ask you to do the erase/restore on your phone. At this point the file going on your phone is the file they just set. After this is done and they close the issue on their end they no longer have access to your other backups. You must open a new case going through the whole process if you should need to do this again.

Either way, mine is good to go again!!!

I have webos doctored my phone half a dozen times with no problems until two days ago when I lost all my contacts and calendar info. After reading this forum i called the number NxTech3 suggested (1-866-750-PALM). After about 45 minutes on the phone with support and being bumped up to level 3 they "pushed" my data and all was restored -4 recently added contacts. My question is why they lost the data the first place. Is it possible that when my phone tried to download all my contact info something went wrong and it didn't download any of them but the palm profile thought the process was complete? And then while my phone was on and logged in, it might have auto synced and since there were no contacts on my phone (thinking that I deleted them off my phone) they then were deleted off my palm profile? Seeing that I am missing 4 contacts leads me to believe they used an old backup of my data. Anyways I kinda wish it didn't work so I could get a free battery or something plus it is a good excuse to tell someone when they say you haven't called in a while : ) (I know, even joking about losing 200 + contacts is never funny). Anyways like the Palm agents I talked to suggested, I am going to migrate all my contact to gmail which will be very time consuming. I suggest anyone that was or is waiting for a call from Palm, call again it seems like they are finally getting things together over there. As for me I will never use my palm profile again. Lesson learned. Thanks for all the help on this forum guys!

why people don't just setup a free google account and use that to sync all contacts & calendars is beyond me. At least that way, whatever device you have, you know you info will be safe and in one place.

Only relying on Palm Profile is wrong as these cases have highlighted that it's not secure, and what if you change to a different device down the line? You'd have to somehow transfer it.

USE Google to store your info, Simple.

well... this was a lesson learned..... i have gotten my contacts back... but for the time it consumed and the hassle, its not worth the fight.... i have switched my primary backup to GOOGLE. PALM should be crediting users for the inconvenience this caused.

Is it possible to do a back-up (or restore) at your own time frame (i.e. a few times a day) like with Sprite back-up with Windows Mobile phones?

Which gets me to thinking...is there an app like that (Sprite) for WebOS?

Well, I didn't receieve a call about being able to retrieve the contacts. When I first called about the issue the rep said there wasn't a way to get them back. So, I will try calling them tomorrow to see if I can get them to send me my backup.

    you should call 8774263777

if your case is queued to L3, L1 would tell you that L3 would call you back which might take awhile

if case is queued to the specialist, it is escalated real-time unless they are on heavy queue .. you can stay on hold until a specialist rep answer the call

So is there any fix for this?

"Lost my contacts from an unpatched Pre.." ... and then options where they've recovered their contacts from both scenerios.

are there any users with unpatched pre who lost their contacts?

Yes, it's somewhere toward the end of this thread....
    http://forums.precentral.net/web-os-...bos-app-4.html

Or you can simply use WOSQI to copy the PalmDatabase.db3 file to your desktopOS... http://www.precentral.net/how-back-y...le-information

No matter what you do, your problem probly came from having 1.3.1 and then trying to sign into your Palm Profile with only 1.2.1 or 1.1.0 or somethin' like that. You've got to upgrade from the same version to the same version. Different versions don't bode well for actually restoring your data, which is actually more important than the backup itself.

    no, that's partially wrong.
i read alot of people who lost their data whithout upgrading.
i gradet up three days ago..
    no contact was lost!
then i backed up everything in 1.3.1, doctored my pre, checked the version (a fresh 1.3.1) and then synced my data back....baeng...
some other wrote about dataloss using 1.1.3 two weeks ago(europe gsm version)
same process of erasing and setting up the os and then losing all the data...
and that has nothing to do with 1.3.1 because 1.3.1 wasn't out at that time...

yep, here! Former unpatched GSM 1.1.3 version and lost 290 contacts (1 was restored ) and many calendar entries and memos... And no replacemet phone nor webdoctoring involved in my case. Just plain and simple partial erase and logging back in with palm profile on the same OS version and device.

Now i'm on 1.3.1., but that was weeks after the loss. Glady without data loss this time but i also did not have to erase anything after the update.

lost all my data too... but got it back from Palm support.

I had done a manual backup a few weeks ago under WebOS 1.2.1.
    Upgraded to 1.3.1 in mid-November.
The unit was getting slow in response and hanging at times, so I decided to remove all tweeks and reload 1.3.1 from scratch with WebOs doctor. Signed into my profile and the only contacts and calendar entries present were those which I edited since the 1.3.1 upgrade in mid-November.

I contacted palm support via chat session 2 days ago, who led me through steps to try and recover, to no avail; they told me they would contact me within 48 hrs and a chat session id to reference... checked back today, they referred me to a free phone support session and gave me an SR# to reference.

upon calling phone support and going through lots of questions, did partial erase, they asked me to wait before signing in... they restored a previous file from a few weeks ago; apparently they looked at the size difference.

Presto... data is back! (except for the recent edits, which I can live with)

Palm rep stated that their phone support is normally free for 1st 90 days,
but they have extended this period for Pre customers.

    thoughts:
    - wonder why auto backup after 1.3.1 upgrade was only backing up recent edits/changes?
    - will always do manual backups periodically, and before doing resets
    - will create a google account to sync with
    - miss the palm desktop; much easier to work with

Nice thoughts. I like it when people's heads aren't always in the cloud. Cloud is good, but it's not the be-all, end-all for security... and it NEVER will be.

Truer words were never spoken. In addition to mediocre device quality and incomplete phone software, it looks like Palm has applied their lackluster skills to cloud computing too. Even Apple is still trying to get their hands around cloud computing with their me.com. Google is the only one worthy of a little trust - and I still back up my Google data by other means.

Good news. 4 days later and all of my contacts are restored. Palm restored my data from a previous backup.

Thanks! It did take a while for L1 to get me on the line with a L3 tech, but it was good to finally get someone on the line. The first restore point that he pushed through did not help. I told him to go back about 2 weeks and use a restore point from that time frame. And it worked! The bad thing is that I have 160 contacts that are connected to the Palm Profile and the only way to route them to Google is to reenter each and every number as new! Ahhh that would take a while.

Well, I had a lemon of a Pre I bought in Week One of release (insert comments about waiting longer next time here, or insert comments about products needing to be tested more before release).

At any rate, I've just been given a new replacement phone and -poof- all contacts are gone. Would have been nice if Sprint would have warned me ahead of time.

    Sheesh.
