Telefonica launches mobile app store mstore

Telefonica has launches its online shop mstore, which will market applications and digital content for mobile phones.

The new retail channel will be operational in all countries where the multinational company is present.

The megastore targets Telefonica's over 200 million customers worldwide. However, in this initial stage, the retail channel will be exclusively available to the operator's around 10 million clients in Spain.

Mstore currently offers around 1,000 applications, classified in 14 categories, including games, dictionaries, entertainment, finance, health, GPS-maps, information, photos and videos, social networking, travel and books, sports, shopping, tools, and education/children.

The applications already available on mstore include translators for different languages, a variety of travel assistant tools with city subway maps and flight schedules, expense control applications, tools for sending notes, managing photo albums, recipes, magic tricks, personality tests and tarot, in addition to games.

Prices range from EUR 0.49 to EUR 19.90 (VAT not included) per downloaded application, while over 10 percent of the overall content available on mstore is free of charge.

Customers can access the mstore from Telefonica's Emocion portal from mobile phones or PCs.

Future phones marketed by Telefonica(Palm Pre?) will be equipped with a special icon on the terminal screen, enabling quick access to the operator's mobile app store.
