PreUpdate is available from the QuickInstaller... choose the PimpMyPre feed.

I was also looking for an easier way to update homebrew aps.

I am just using filecoaster. Is it better to uninstall the old version of a homebrew ap and then install the new version? Or just install again on top of the previous version?

I've been using filecoaster to update the number of HB's but i noticed today that it has stopped at 134 even though the number is 138. But perhaps I'm the only one having this problem!

PreUpdate shows all the apps on your Pre and you can click and update right there. Very simple. Great app!!

For those who want to save the 45min of reading I just did....

1. Follow the good instructions here on PreCentral to get FileCoaster if you don't already have it.

2. Use FileCoaster "File URL Download" option to download the "PreLoad" ipk. You can copy and paste it's location from the bottom of the first post here:
http://forums.precentral.net/homebre...-31-8-1-a.html

3. Open newly installed "PreLoad". Select "Applications" and choose "PreUpdater". This will install "PreUpdate".

If you guys want people to try your software, you need to make some clear instructions for people who don't live & breath pre development on a daily basis. I nearly gave up on this several times while doing the research. I guarantee MANY others did.

Keep up the good work otherwise. It is appreciated.

I'm the developer - not the other people. I think they were just trying to help out. There's a PreLoad forum, but it hasn't been made sticky. The other forums about PreLoad and PreUpdate have been moved out of the homebrew section, so again, I don't know another way to keep people informed. There's not much else I can do to spread the word and still work on apps and my site.

The link for the latest version is
http://pimpmypre.com/data/versions/c..._1.9.4_all.ipk

Thank you for posting instructions! I'll try and follow up when I can.

NDZ - Thanks for the straight forward instructions. Have it installed and it kicks a#&

Pimpmypre - Kudos for a great app. I love the homebrew app's and the initiative that the developers such as yourself have undertaken to fill the void while Palm gets it together. I have been a bit gun shy on downloading too many homebrew apps due to the frequent updates and I just don't have time to keep up with it. In my mind, your app is the glue that holds all the homebrew apps together. I think any developer of a app would be crazy not to link their app to Preupdate. Awesome Job!!!!!

Thanks parout!
PreUpdater works off of the app feeds, so they don't have to submit their app to it. We filter the feeds to find the latest version.

We'll probably be building this feature into PreLoad, but keeping this as a separate app for people too.

I'd like to know this as well...I vaguely remember a rumor that, if you don't uninstall first, the update counts as a "new" app and you'll more quickly reach the app limit. Any truth to that?

I downloaded PreUpdater, and it says there is a new version of BlockDrop - ver 0.3.8. That's the version I have, but I did the update anyway. Yet it still says the same thing - that I need to update.

Any ideas?

According to the feed, there is a new version 0.4.1

If the developers don't update the appinfo.json inside their app and have all the version numbers inside there match, then sometimes the update will not happen.

This is because if the version inside the app still says 0.3.8 and you have that version, it will not bother reinstalling it.

Also, the update page does not refresh right now. After you run the update, exit out and go back in and see if it still says it needs updated. We'll fix that in the next version.

I'd delete it and get the new version from PreLoad or FileCoaster if it did not update.

I hadn't heard that one before.
And is it an app limit or a size limit?

I believe it's a size limit.
