Sometimes I randomly get an error message saying I have too many cards open even though in fact only 1 or 2 cards are actually opened. What gives?? Anyone else experienced this?

Yes I have gotten that as well and called sprint and palm both say oh..that's a first..I call bull**** on that. just restart your phone an you should be ok.

I think the RAM in the phone just starts filling up over time so a reboot is needed to wipe it clean and start over. Kinda like when a pc says the virtual memory is low and wants you to increase it. Normally a simple reboot will fix it unless you have a memory leak.

I also get this with just one card open. I've seen a higher occurrence of this since WebOS 1.1.0. Closing the card fixes it sometimes and sometimes I have to do a reboot of the phone.

Yep, same thing happened to me a few days ago. I only had 2 cards open - PrePod and the web, I think. It has never happened before. Hasn't happened since.

ive had this before but with no cards open aswell. I'm hoping for someone to make a "RAM-cleaner" type of application so we won't have to reboot our phones.

ram cleaner would be nice. I usually get this after couple weeks of no reboot and I have FB full site open. Then after the reboot, I can have 10 to 15 cards open.

Cause: my guess is that some applications (or the Pre OS) may not be getting the message ("I closed my card").

Interesting: it has happened twice to me ... and both times i had less than 3 cards open.

Fix: I simply did a reboot ... and all is well.

I have noticed this as well. It is quite frustrating. Last night, my Pre froze up and kept giving me that message regardless of what I did (I didn't have any cards open at the time). I rebooted the phone and re-opened the web browser (what I was doing when the phone froze and gave me the "Too many cards" error message). When the web browser opened, it told me that I had no bookmarks! Somehow, all my bookmarks were erased as part of this "too many cards" issue.

So now I have two issues. The (almost daily) "Too Many Cards" error message (even though no cards are open) and I need to restore all my bookmarks.

Does anyone know how I can restore my bookmarks?

I really hope this issue is fixed in the next OS update...it NEVER happened before 1.1 was released.

I've had this happen to me too with just 2-3 cards open.. usually closing those 2-3cards fixes the issue for me.

I found that simply closing ALL cards and waiting a few seconds will usually clear things up.

This is the indicator of the RAM filling up, if only a few or no cards are open at all then there is a memory leak somewhere (highly likely 3rd party app since not everyone is experiencing the message). I only seen this message once and that was back during 1.02 or earlier. Rebooting will clear the RAM and all will be normal again until the app causing the memory leak is triggered in the same was as before to cause the memory leak. I'm fairly certain that the facebook web page has some sort of memory leak. It locks up my vista 64pc and bogs down my xp pc over time (but it doesn't lock up). Anyways track everything you do prior to getting the close cards message. After several times of it happening you should be able to find a common ground of the cause if you selectively eliminate certain things you do until you find out what thing is the cause.

Not to pick on you in particular but a thread search of "too many cards" got the following and these were just the threads where the title made it fairly obvious that is what the issue was (and these just through the first half of the pages listed). There are no doubt a lot more threads and posts if had bothered to REALLY look.

The lack of searching is getting out of control so much so that searching itself for those that do it is becoming difficult since there are so many threads on the same topics

Personally I thin it's a leak w/ the browser.. I've noticed this sometimes when I have a browser open to a heavy site (aka facebook..)

Closing the browser card tends to clear things up..

I had the same message appear with only one card open (email). What's worse, the shortcut to re-boot (Orange + Sym + R) wouldn't work either. I had to remove the battery to re-boot. I had the same RAM problem with my prior Blackberry, and had to remove its battery about once a month. Nothing else successfully cleared out the memory.

Has happened to me once. Its most likely a memory leak. Not unexpected for a new OS to be honest. In fact, still pretty danm good. When my blackberry would slow to a crawl it was unbearable. Like seeing the hour glass spin and spin just cause i pressed the menu button.

Btw yukon, you can reboot just by holding the power button and moving the ringer switch back and forth 3 times.
