I was just wondering if there were any firmware updates available or coming available for some kind of status indicator light when the pre's screen is off or in sleep mode. I had the Samsung Instinct that had this same problem, and an update became availabe that made the light up bar at the bottom of the phone fade in and out every couple of minutes to indicate you had a message, email, voicemail, or what not. Will the Pre have a similar update or has anyone made any kind of update (homebrew)for this? Its annoying to have to constantly open the phone or turn on the screen while its in silent mode at work.

    Thanks, Jason

Nothing currently. I do not know if it will have a firmware update.

Palm has never been a company to announce plans for updates. The only way we'll know for certain is after such an update is made available.

Jason, you don't have to open the phone! All you have to do is press the power button. Even though it will be locked, notifications will still show up.

There should still be a notification light. I don't want to power up my phone everytime I walk away from it just to see if I missed something.

I don't think a single person on these forums would disagree with you. However, there is no current capability of this and it has been discussed ad nauseam.

There's sort of a workaround, which is to use the touchstone. When the pre is on the touchstone, assuming that you have the show notifications when locked option enable from the screen & lock app, then the phone will display all your notifications since the screen is never turned off.

that isnt a workaround, not everyone has a touchstone and not everyone carries it with them everywhere
