I got this idea after somebody posted a Pre + Pixie hybrid.
I was thinking about it while I was trying to fix my own slight oreo problem.
However, I'm over my oreo twist issues.

This is our beloved Pre, with the background I use:

Great eh? A QWERTY keyboard and everything.
But uhh, what about landscape mode?
Dual Sliders a good idea, but not that appealing.

Here is where the oreo effect comes into place.
You slide the screen out, and rotate it.

Here is a better image, where I modified the perspective to make it look a bit more realistic. It's still a bit off, but atleast the screen is facing parallel to the keyboard.

In reality, there should be more space. This could allow for a dedicated number row. There could also be a D-Pad above the actual keyboard.

Haha, this is just a funny idea I thought of.
Bad photoshopping, I know... I tried.
To be honest, I don't know if it's even achievable hardware-wise (I don't think it is)...

Just wanted to see what everyone thought of it.

Brilliant, if only the pre had the same type of swivel mechanics that are used on a sidekick.

i miss watching the screen kick into place.

    Yeah, that could work.
I wonder if Palm could mimic such a swivel.
It'd be cool if it was both ways; for right and left handed people, lol.

I thought so too before I really found out what the Oreo twist is like.
Well, I have a minor one.

I haven't seen an extreme one yet. When I youtube'd it, the guy only had a minor twist.
I say Palm should use this hardware defect to their advantage in creating the Pre 2 since people want typing in landscape mode and the screen won't allow for it.
Who complains with a hardware keyboard portrait and landscape?

It would be cool if our knees also bend left and right so we can run sideways - but there are other issues that come up when you break your bones that way

If the next Pre did that it would be kind of cool. That way you could view stuff in landscape and still use the keyboard with turning the phone.

Yeah, and the cool thing about it is that people don't have to change to a landscape keyboard either.
The portrait keyboard is what people are going to be used to.

I've seen phones like these in Japan. They use it to watch TV on the subway.

I remember way back before the Pre was announced, and even before the Treo 800 came out, there was this device that was supposed to be "the next thing" from Palm. It looked allot like the OP's pic, it was a slider where the screen swivelled into landscape. I wish I could remember the name of it. Also, I wonder if it were a Palm prototype?
Why can't the mobile device manufactures get that most want a touch screen and a front face QWERTY?

This is just like the one I was thinking of.

    Except much thicker.
If this was thinner with WebOS running it, wowwww.

Having a landscape screen and access to a keyboard all at the same time is the only thing that makes me miss my Touch Pro. The Roteo looks like it would have been VERY successful. I'm surprised they didn't release it. A rotating device seems like a much better idea than what we have to work with at the moment.

Edit: Turns out that thing is actually the Compal Tabasco, not the Palm Roteo. However, Palm had once talked about purchasing the device and branding it as their own.

i guess i'm the minority that while SOMETIMES this would be useful, i would get annoyed the screen flipped ratios anytime i wanted the keyboard.

    But nice concept.
