    well my problem is that my phone never goes into EV mode only 1x, but thats not all the soulution she gave me "update network settings" just sits there, I left it running for about 6 hours and started it up agian, left it running all night, did nothing, kept saying "updating"......

    Any Ideas?

    Uhhh...you don't have 3G in your area or 3G service is down? Did it work ever in EVDO/3G? Drive out about 5 miles away from your location and see it that changes. Otherwise you've got bad hardware.

    Typo??? TYPO???? You've got to be kidding me! A misspelled word is a typo, telling you to remove the battery and re-install it and then backpeddling and telling you not to is NOT a typo!

    Chat help, like most of Sprint's customer service is next to worthless.

    I had the problem of constantly switching between roaming, 1x and EVDO. One thing that may help is to do the following:

    Launch the phone app.
    Click on Sprint (top left corner) and then preferences.
    Scroll down to Network and change it from Automatic to Sprint only. That should at least keep it from jumping to roaming.

    Of course, you have to have good EVDO coverage in your area but there does seem to be a problem with the Pre and reception.

    My Treo 800w was pretty solid with regards to EVDO. My Pre does jump around from 1x to EVDO. The phone can be sitting on the table and you can watch it go from 1 bar to full bars and then 3 bars and then 1 bar....and then 1x and then back to EVDO. It seems to have improved a bit after I changed it to Sprint only.

    I don't think there is any problem removing the battery, just make sure you shut down the Pre first. Or, if it's locked up and you can't do a manual reset, then your only choice is to remove the battery.

    After all, they sell replacement batteries, how are people supposed to change them if they tell you never to remove them?

    What I was referring to in my previous post is how customer service flip flops on the advice they give people when confronted with information that they don't know how to answer.

    yeah I understand that. it just seems they dont know whats going on, as I do live in a 3g area. its not really that big of a deal as 1x can still play pandora fairly well, I would just like to see how much different it is between EV and 1x.

    Plus I really dont want to exchange my pre as it has no defects, dead pixles, "oreo" twist is almost non exsistant. And no screen blotches. Just would like a perfect pre I guess.

    Are you sure you never dialed ##EVDO# (##3836#) and changed your settings to "1xRTT only?" Go to the phone app and double check it.

    Then it sounds like a hardware issue to me if you go to areas where you get a strong signal but still don't get EVDO. Exchange it.

    doh, I am afrade I will get a pre with a defect. IE dead pixles, screen blotches, oreo twist......

    Well using the ##EVDO# command I can set it to evdo only and get it to work that way, 4-5 bars even at my house...... dont know whats up. Will take it back to the sprint store to see if they can help me.
