    I miss:
    being able to grab the phone and dial-true 1 touch dialing not slide the screen press and hold 1 touch (even after adding speed dial & putting kids on launcher page it is still more than 1 touch);
    real memos/bug me/notepads and/or voice memos;
    Bluetooth connection with my computer;
    Butler type alarms; 5 way toggle;
    real notifications;
    copy and paste; fwd text messages;
    grafitti
    my apps Butler, Datebook, Sling, Audible.

    I don't miss the design or bulk.

    Been with Palm for more than 10 years and really, really want to keep my shiny new phone with the great web browser, just hope new business user apps start rolling in soon.

    Just to chime in with my "miss list" - coming from a 700p (and 650 and 600 before it) - most missed first:
    1. 5-way D-pad Nav / one-handed - How to address?
    a. Maybe assigning 5 letters on the keyboard to Nav - though it would be clunky
    b. Large on-screen D-pad in bottom right? Again, clunky, but better than nothing
    c. Assign volume keys as up/down plus the app-switch button. Might actually work well!
    2. Nagging alarms and notification light (with Butler - hopefully will improve w/ release of Butler - they're working on one)
    3. Battery life - maybe will improve some, but will probably always be a rough spot.
    4. PDANet / USBModem Tethering - hopefully will be an app
    5. PalmVNC (can use in Classic, but can't scroll down! - hopefully will be a PreVNC app)
    6. Easier cut-paste (hopefully will improve with updates - but regardless, selecting text will always be a pain)
    7. Settings / customizability of all apps - I'm sure a lot will improve over time, but Email, SMS, etc. are all *so* basic - lots of settings I'd like to be able to adjust.

    No expandable storage, clunky SMS, limited media player, smaller keyboard, and the other issues people have talked about are minor enough for me to be OK with (and most of them will improve over time).

    *All* of these have potential solutions (though D-pad is the toughest to address). There are so many cool new things with the Pre that over time I'm gonna love this phone. TTYL,

    At this point I am glad I am still in contract and not eligible for upgrade yet. The question is going to be, will I like Eos better? With a possible $99 price tag, all the features of the Pre, yet less chance of hardware failure. By then WebOS will be tuned a bit more and since I don't intend on using the phone as a media player just a better browser is my goal, I don't need the larger screen.

    I most miss two things--

    1) Having the larger keyboard instantly accessible at all times (though I do love the smaller form factor the sliding board on the Pre gives).

    and

    2) Like everyone else I miss the precision the rocker switch and stylus gave me. Selecting or editing text on the Pre is a pain!!!

    I switched from a Treo 650p (had it for about 4 years), so there's a few minor software things I miss, but hardly anything hardware wise.

    I do not miss:

    *Blazer. Possibly the worst smartphone browser ever.
    *Having to install and fiddle with the virtual java machine.

    I do miss:

    *The tank-like construction. I've dropped my 650 more times than I can count, from higher heights than what I consider safe for a phone. The pre feels like a Mini Cooper compared to the old tank.
    *Smiley icons for text messages. This should come with a new firmware update hopefully.
    *Solitare! This was the most played game I had on my Treo.
    *The usefulness of the PalmOS calander app. The current version on the Pre is not up to par.
    *The battery life of said tank. On the original battery, I could make the phone last about a week on light usage. I'm now lucky to go a day and a half on light usage, but still better than a G1 for me.
    *And most importantly, the 5-way DPad. Goodness do I miss that thing. I never understood why the middle button wasn't a trackball on the Pre.

    EDIT: Almost forgot to add the huge keyboard and the ability to copy text from just about any app. Man I miss that 5 way key pad

    -Full copy & paste in all apps. the iphone is now better at copy/paste that the Palm phone. s
    -Quick "canned" (but customizable) texts in messaging app
    -Ability to easily send incoming phone call a quick text message ("Honey, I'm in a meeting")
    -Emoticons in messaging application
    -visual voice mail (even though not on Treo)
    -better navigation of contacts (although I like the additional data fields in the address book)
    -SplashID with desktop sync'ing (don't like the online SplashID but do like the WebOS SplashID beta and am running SplashID reasonably successfully in Classic - although it was not closing automatically as it is supposed to).

    I love the Pre and like Classic for a few legacy PalmOS apps (such as Tide Tool) but it is sometimes hard to use w/o stylus and/or 5way button

    Hey Darknight,
    4 was PDANet / USBModem / Tethering / Modem - I searched for all those in the homebrew forum and came up empty except one hit on tethering... So unless the search just isn't picking up the terms, I'm not finding anything. Didn't see anything working in other forums either. Can you point me in the right direction? Or were you trying to answer one of my other missed items? Thx,

    I misse and have posted before about wanting the Pre to do what my Treo 650 did with in the 'calendar' app. I want to make an appointment with a contact. In the Treo 650 (an probably all other Palm OS devices), you would create an event and then go to the menu and do 'phone lookup' that would grab the info from that contact and paste it into the event line.

    I want that and more importantly need that.

    I make a lot of doctor appointments.

    And from looking at Google, Outlook.. they all want to setup 'meetings' and it will only do that if a contact has an email address. How many of you have your doctor's email address.

    This should be simple to add this former feature to the Pre and I will keep pressing for it.

    The other stuff that I miss is 'streaming live radio' and I had used Pocket-Tunes (one of the best music players made for the Treo/Palm OS and Kinoma.

    One other thing, is an application called Avantgo, however they just stopped supporting mobile phones.

    What I liked about Avantgo, is that it would download all my selected news and/or magazine articles to be read 'offline'.

    Example: I had CNET, NY Times, PC World, etc.

    The ability to read off line meant that I could read all these articles while I was on the subway going to work.

    Now with the Pre, we have The NY Times and AP (and a few others), however you cannot read these articles off line. (With the small except that the NY Times allows you to save individual articles but you have to do each article separately.)

    Those are the main things that I miss from the Pre.

    And I'm worried that most of these apps or features will not get developed for the Pre, making the Pre a device that I love, but not useful for me in the long run. And after a year or so, if they still don't have these features or apps I will have to look elsewhere for what I need.

    I am a Palm fan, so I am trying to remain hopeful!

    So guys, am I asking for useful stuff for you as well, or am I not in the mainstream of desires.

    Thanks!

    Rob

    I don't have a Pre yet, but here's what I THINK I'll miss:

    Agenda View for the Calendar
    Scheduled Complete Backups (Resko)
    Selecting/Deleting Multiple Emails at Once
    Sending/Receiving Files/Contacts via Bluetooth
    Some games: Monopoly, Astraware Casino (not sure Classic is worth the purchase just yet, not to mention play may be awkward anyway)

    Really wish we could get a quick text list. Sending out a pre designated text was way easy with our treo but now it sucks. also when are the emoticons coming? liked using them for ****s and grins

    Here's another one, how about a way to turn the Pre on & keep it lit up & when you update let the pre update much more quickly, I have to keep turning it on & the wheel is still spinning.
    Jeesh, I have the Airave & am using Wi-Fi, so that's not the issue.

    Nintendo. I played so much Super Mario 3 on my 650 that I evenutally became better on it than I had ever been on Nintendo. I literally could speed level on that thing, Im talkin close to the records for certain levels. Cant wait for a good NES emulator, heck maybe even a PS1 emu!?

    Notebook/Memopad and syncing the Notebook with the desktop/cloud. The memo app on the pre is a joke. Pre is probably going back because of this single issue for me.

    Rocker is sorely missed. Pre is not really a one hand device. I'd rather have an easy to use one hand device than a really slick two hand one.

    Battery continues to be terrible though it has improved since I got the Pre. I really cannot use the Pre freely. One is in a constant mode of preservation. Treo had no problem.

    Waking up the phone from the button on the front.

    Very likely to send the Pre back in the next couple of days before my 30 day period and reactivate my 755p. I shall try again if they make improvements down the road.

    can we say a decent mp3 player again?
    and a simple clock(that stays on all nite) with alarm
    i can't believe it, but i'm missing the whole phone page-everything i needed just a finger tap away (not 3-4)
    palm contacts (again, i can't believe i miss that!)

    i hate the learning curve of a new device & OS system!
    my treo is staying close, just in case

    i will say, love the size and ease of web browsing. definite improvement there!
