On vacation, desparately need a file that was emailed to me. My laptop is unable to access the internet. I've downloaded an 11 MB file to my Pre, but when I connect via USB cable, I cant find the downloaded file on my Pre's USB drive. There must be a way for me to access this email attachment.

    Anyone?

is there a way to move the file from the "internal" memory to the "usb drive" area? like on the treo/centros moving from internal to sd ? I don't have a pre yet, just a thought.

I hope ya get it figured out.

It only allows me to move the email to a different email folder. This is crazy, I can't access a file I've downloaded. It cant be true!

Make sure you enable "View Hidden Files" on the computer when you access the Pre via USB.

Itunes music is also hidden unless you do this

In Windows (I don't know Mac)...

Connect Pre to Desktop via USB
Open the Palm's folder on the Desktop
Go to Tools Menu.......Click "Folder Options"
click the View tab in the pop up window
In the list of Advanced Settings, click "Show Hidden Files and folders"
    Click Apply or OK

    Good luck!

Figured that out, but still no email attachments present anywhere. And I did download the file.

    Insanity!

    Root your pre

On the Pre's USB drive is a folder called "downloads". Its empty. So when I downloaded the attachment, where did it go?

Not a hacker, wouldn't know how to "root" the Pre, and shouldn't have know that either. Isn't this supposed to be a smartphone/PDA. WTF?

Can Docs to Go open it to view it?

I did that with a pdf just now in PDF viewer. While in PDF viewer, you can save a copy to a unique name.
I assume that copy was in the root folder of my Pre when I connected via USB.

I'll try with an Excel file to see if that works

when I click on the downloaded file (*.123) it comes back with, "cannot find an application which can open this file."

Looks like I'll have to travel to find some interet cafe.

    hard to believe!

    Interesting...

Just emailed myself an .xls file. From Email app on Pre, downloaded it, then clicked the icon of the attachment again and it opened in DOCview. I then saved a new copy under a different name.

Connected via USB... the file with the new name is there in the root folder. The original file is not. I have no idea where those originals go, but it looks like you have to actively save a copy from Doc Viewer.

Can Doc Viewer open Lotus spreadsheets?

Can the person sending you the file, save it as .xls?
or for view only purposed, .pdf?

Bummer. Unless the sender converts it to .xls, I think you're stuck.

I was the sender. E-mailed it to myself before I left for vacay.

Thanks for your time and efforts.

PALM, you have a major issue here!!!

i thought you said you were on vacation? have a pina colada and forget about it.

[or, if it's really important, have the sender re-send it, as stated above]

    edit: pina colada it is!
