I had to turn mine in due to a bad connection on the USB port (had to hold at an angle to charge or transfer files) and the battery issue where the phone would reboot if you closed the keyboard to hard.

got it 3 days after launch yellow box with 1.0.2 preinstalled, not problems whatsover

still on my first one, total white box, black/orange sleeve and it had 1.0.2 installed. i do have 2 splotches but considering keeping it in fear of getting one in worse shape.. any opinions? should i take it back? my 30 days is on my heels.

I'm on my first Pre. No dead pixels, yellow blotches, exc. The only problem I had with my Pre was that the slider was very loose. So I fixed this and put up a tutorial on the forums how I fixed it. Now it's not wobbly and loose and won't budge a mm!

I am legitimately on my 5th Pre. my first FOUR had dead pixels.

Fight and return it. I returned 4 for dead pixels before I got a good one. Sprint employees made it hard to do, but fight for a good phone. You paid full price for one, you deserve a fully functional one.

you don't have to fight too hard. It's well within your right to return it because you think the one you got is evil and is trying to murder you...ok maybe just say i want to return it because I don't want it. Then go to another store and get another one.

The dead pixels were there out of box? Of did they die over time period?

You definitely wont give up on the Pre. Good luck.

I haven't seen this issue reported yet, but on mine around the screen(the bezel?) in low light situations there are lots of light coming through. Which is incredibly distracting...it's around the entire screen, not part of the LCD.

Outside of that the phone has been fine. Crossing my fingers there are no issues on the next one I get. I can try and supply pictures if people need to see what I'm talking about.

Of those that were 'bad' or exchanged, do guys/gals remember if they came in the black or yellow box?

I think there was theory that black packaging represented a bad mfgs lot.

Mine came in a yellow box. 1.0.2 was already installed. No issues (so, far?).

All of my manufacturer defect Pres came in the regular white box

2nd horrible distortion.

3rd. Halves were coming apart.

4th 1 dead pixel horrible light leak.. Keeping this one.

Never but I just got mine a few days ago...manufacture date was 6/13/09 with yellow box...solid as a riverstone

If we adjust for the actual number of returns:
Fifth Pre = 4 returns, so 4 returns * 4 people = 16
Fourth Pre = 3 returns, so 3 returns * 3 people = 9
Third Pre = 2 returns, so 2 returns * 16 people = 32
Second Pre = 1 return, so 1 return * 30 people = 30
First Pre = 89

16 + 9 + 32 + 30 = 87 BAD, had to return
89 GOOD, no return

So, in our completely unscientific, super small sample size, survey, we have:
49% RETURNED
51% NOT RETURNED

Pretty darn bad!!!

the bottom left corner is a little blotched in certain programs. but the black on the bottom isnt messed up so maybe its just those programs (pandora the most). deff not worthh the hassle or return since i already put an invisible shield on it.

on my third first one broken volume button, second one cracked screen third one has discolored screen but im gonna ride it out for a week or 2 the store is on back order,

my wife is waiting on her second one now

My first one has been absolutely perfect. Got mine on launch day, black sleeved box from Best Buy.
