I had planned to wait until a few things got worked out like cut paste; email search and so on. But today my curve finally gave it up. So I went in to see about repair and the quote was 120. Asked if they had any pres and low and behold a 'few' are available. So I am posting from my new pre with no backlit keyboard and rapidly dying battery we will see how it goes

It only works on editable text (like in text fields). I'm sure he meant that he was going to wait until Palm made it work on static text.

My keyboard has a backlight. Sounds like you have a defective pre. I have not noticed a setting to turn it off or on.

When my Pre gets low on battery, the backlight goes off on the keyboard.

No backlite keyboard?? You must have a defective model or something. I'd go back and have them replace it. Since I've gotten mine: I get about 16 hours on a full charge with decent usage with everything turned on high except screen brightness is all the way down and no data roaming... Keyboard is still lite on mine though even with the brightness where it is at. Good luck with it though!

That was it. It seems to be working now, such as it is. Very dim.

FYI you shouldn't play with the phone right out of the box, turn it off as soon as possible then charge it to full to get the full potential out of the battery.

If you have the screen dimmed all the way down, the keyboard is dimmed the same amount.

I was using my pre last night and at 18% battery I got a notification that the battery was low and the keyboard light shut off.
