I'm not saying this is going to make the halves fit perfectly firm together when closed, but it will reduce the wiggle and give on the right side of some Pre phones. In my phone's case it's the left side that was pretty loose.

You need a T5 screwdriver and a pin or small sharp object

Pull off the back battery cover
Use the pin to remove the Palm sticker on the screw on the loose side
Tighten with the T5 screwdriver
Replace the Palm sticker, be sure to orient it the same way

There is still a gap, but it doesn't shift when I touch in that area any more.

What do you mean by use the pin? Just use any pin? Maybe you could take some pics of you removing the sticker?

When you say loose, are you seeing a gap or are you just hearing a click?

My first unit had a pretty big gap at the top when the slider was closed. My current unit clicks when pinching the top right corner when closed at the ringer toggle.

I'm trying to figure out if your fix applies to me.

I believe he means use a pin because it has a sharp point. It allows you to go under the sticker in order to lift it.

Glad to know I'm not the only one that observed/has this.

Mine is extremely sloppy when closed, T anything screw driver and lifting a sticker brings me back to the Storm misery I went through Hopefully this is a SIMPLE fix on the Pre. I will try it from work tomorrow and report back.

As a clarification, mine was so loose it clicked, I could twist it ~2 degrees while closed, there was about 1/16" gap.

The pin: I just mean any sharp, thin object to get under the sticker.

Again it isn't a perfect fix, but it alleviated some of my annoyance.

Are the sliders on your phones really this loose after only a week of use? If so, that would be worrisome.

I will have to sadly say mine is just as poor when closed if not worse. I received my phone in this condition yesterday and after having 2 Pre's with serious screen issues am worried to take it back, but it seriously starting to annoy me.

I have really opened/closed a lot of time, in fact when I first got the Pre on Saturday I opened/closed it for like 30 min to get used to openng it and my slider is not loose at all. If my slider was loose I would exchange the Pre.

If you do this you risk voiding the warranty.

Mine is exactly like this also. My problem is I bought at best buy and have to wait till they got some in to exchange which could be weeks.

If you damage the sticker. If your Pre breaks at a later date and if the employee replacing your phone at that time cares or knows about the existence of the tiny sticker.

This is not especially risky.

It's not that hard to get that sticker off fully intact.

I'm not worried about voiding the warranty, and if worst comes to worst I have TEP. My question is, does tightening these screws snug up the lateral (side to side) movement on phones with a sloppy slider in the closed position, or does it simply stiffen the slider action.

Only Palm would care about that (Perhaps). Sprint people probably won't care.

Removing the sticker voids your warranty. Just because you may be able to remove the sticker and replace it without being caught doesn't mean you should. Having integrity means doing the right thing like not trying to get warranty coverage when you know you've purposely voided your right to warranty coverage. Having integrity means doing the right thing even if you know you won't be caught if you don't. What you are describing is dishonest and possibly some type of fraud and thus possibly illegal.

Just to add. I open up devices and void my warranty all the time. But I don't then try to cover it up and fool the device manufacturer. I take responsibility for my actions.
